Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today updated New Yorkers on the state’s immunization program. As of 11 a.m. today, New York’s healthcare delivery sites have delivered 91 percent of the first doses delivered so far. The federal government’s week 10 allocation was delayed due to winter storms that affected much of the country, and week 10 deliveries continue to arrive today. The week 11 assignment will begin to arrive mid week.
“We know the vaccine is the weapon that will win the war on COVID, but there are three obstacles to getting vaccinated for all New Yorkers: supply, accessibility, and hesitancy.” Governor Cuomo said. “The supply from the federal government is constantly increasing every week, but demand still far exceeds supply. We already have the infrastructure to administer injections as quickly as possible once we receive them, and we continue to focus on vaccine equity as we work with local leaders in our most vulnerable communities to educate more New Yorkers about vaccine safety and encourage them to sign up for an appointment to get vaccinated. Starting this week, our largest vaccination sites yet in Brooklyn and Queens will begin vaccinating 3,000 eligible New Yorkers daily, prioritizing people from the communities that were most affected by the pandemic, and I encourage all who are eligible to make an appointment. “
Approximately 10 million New Yorkers are currently eligible to receive the vaccine. New York’s vast distribution network and large population of eligible individuals still far exceed the supply from the federal government. Due to limited supply, New Yorkers are encouraged to be patient and are advised not to show up at vaccination sites without an appointment.
The ‘Am I Eligible?’ It has been updated for people with underlying comorbidities and conditions with new citations posted continuously over the next several weeks. Starting next week, local health departments will also receive vaccine assignments for these people. New Yorkers can use the following to show they are eligible:
- Doctor’s letter, or
- Medical information evidencing comorbidity, or
- Certification signed
The immunization program numbers below are for the doses distributed and delivered to New York for the state’s immunization program, and do not include those reserved for the federal government’s long-term care facility program. To date, New York health care delivery sites have administered 91 percent of the first doses received from the federal government, but due to limited allocation from the federal government, appointments have quickly filled. New Yorkers who wish to determine eligibility and schedule an appointment at a mass vaccination site run by the state can visit the ‘Am I Eligible?’ Website. New Yorkers can also call their local health department, pharmacy, doctor or hospital for additional information and to schedule appointments where vaccines are available.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Control Panel is available to update New Yorkers on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. The New York State Department of Health requires vaccination facilities to report all COVID-19 vaccine administration data within 24 hours; The vaccine administration data on the dashboard is updated daily to reflect the most up-to-date metrics on the state’s vaccination effort.
New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) toll free or email the state Department of Health at [email protected]. Hotline staff will forward complaints to the appropriate investigative agencies to ensure that New Yorkers are not taken advantage of while the state works to vaccinate the entire eligible population.
