Google Pixel 5: Here’s what computational photographers have to offer in 2020

Google’s Pixel 5 flagship smartphone features a telephoto camera to capture its predecessor distant subjects and switches, which is good for taking pictures of people and indoor scenes rather than an ultraviolet angle optional. The change follows Apple’s iPhone 11, which added an ultraviolet lens last year.

An ultravide camera is also useful for video, often cropping the outer parts of the frame to help stabilize the footage. The Ultravide camera offers a traditional main 12-megapixel camera on the back of the Pixel 5 and an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front. Pixel 5 starts at $ 700, but the new Pixel 4a uses 5G network support as well as camera hardware.

Pixel Product Manager Sonia Jobanputra said, “Ultraviolet lenses ensure that you get it all.”

Google led the way to low light and nighttime photography with the Night Night feature. It is now married to the technology with its portrait mode, which blurs background details. “It allows subjects to stand out even in low light,” said Jobanaputra.

Google revealed the camera details for Pixel 5, Chromecast video streaming device, Nest smart speakers and other products at a product launch event on Wednesday.

The cameras on Google’s Pixel phones are of external importance. Although Google’s phones have not diminished the dominance of Samsung and Apple’s smartphones, they have raised expectations of what is possible for small phone cameras. In particular, Google has pioneered computational photography techniques that use software and other processing methods to squeeze better image quality from smaller phone cameras.

However, Apple has participated by adopting a core Google computational photography method called HDR +, which combines multiple undivided shots into a single frame. The approach helps capture bright detail, while preventing bright blue skies from being exaggerated in whitening blur. And Google has lost an important researcher to Adobe, Marc Levoy, who coined the term computational photography.

Now Google has a new version of HDR +. This time, instead of just retrospective frames, it also includes shiny frames. This is a more traditional approach known as exposure bracketing, and Google says it will make photos brighter.

Also new to video clips is a cinematic video, which smooths horizontal panning.

Last, Google now not only brightens the face in portraits, but also lets you bend the direction of this clear light in your Google Photos software – including old portrait photos you’ve already taken.

Goodbye telephoto camera

Losing telephoto lenses can be frustrating to those who want to capture more distant subjects such as mountains or who prefer the farsighted effect that telephoto lens portraits have on them.

But there are some compensation. First, Google offers a technology called Super-Race Zoom that provides improvements over traditional digital zooming. Second, the large perspective of ultraviolet cameras can be useful for landscape photography.

Apple has adopted a different approach. Its iPhone Pro model mainly includes both ultrawide and telephoto cameras. And rivals love android phones Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra Provide even more powerful optical zoom hardware.

Pixel 5 and 4G 5G phones have main camera as F1 aperture lens and 1.4 micron pixel size as Pixel 4. The ultraviolet camera has f2.2 aperture and small 1-micron pixels. It has got a 16-megapixel sensor, although it is not yet clear whether the final photos will use all 16 million pixels.

For video, the new Pixel phones will shoot 1080p video up to 240 frames per second and 4K video up to 60fps.
