Good News? Phillies has spoken to a representative of JT Realmuto

Rhys Hokins, Jay Bruce and Jean Segura provided the offense and Spencer Howard earned his first major league pitching win as the Phillies corrected themselves with an 8-6 victory at Citizens’ Bank Park on Monday night.

The win came after losing to Atlanta on Sunday night, the Phillies’ sixth in the last seven games.

The Fils are 15–15 with 30 games to play in the sprint season. They are still on track to reach Bryce Harper’s goal of nine wins in 10 games. He went on record saying that the team needed to turn things around after the Phillies lost a fifth game in a row in Atlanta on August 22.

The Phillies are 3–0 against the World Series champions Nationals this season with three more games to play.

Washington is 12-20.

Howard’s Night

The right-handed fraudster showed no ill effects from the 11-day layoff. His first four outs were strike outs. He played five innings and gave up five hits and two runs. The run came in the fifth inning when Howard gave Trey Turner another homer and Juan Soto, who scored two points in the game.

Romero shone

After Hockey departed, rookie Jojo Romero did a good job taking a 6-2 lead. Romero got four outs, two strikes. He has one strike in 6 strikes and three hit innings since joining the club. He is throwing the ball with confidence.

The Phillies will need to vacate a spot on the 28-man roster to add David Phelps on Tuesday. It would be easy to pick up that roster spot to clear Romero, but he is throwing so well that the Phillies may have to consider another solution.

Hunter on a roll

Tommy Hunter received three crucial eighths, three of which protected the lead. Runners came in second and third of two in eighth.

In his final eight matches, Hunter gave up just one run in 9ings innings. He walked just one and struck out eight in that period.

This is something about flex.

Hot bats

Hopkins and Segura are picking up some slack as Harper and JT Realmuto cool down a bit.

Hoskins scored a solo homer in the first inning and two runs in the seventh. He has participated in three straight games and four of the last five. He has eight RBIs in his last three matches.

Segura had a three-run double in the fourth, giving him eight RBIs in his final six matches.

Bruce came from IL with another housemate.

Power show

The Phillies hit 41 homers in August. It was just the 14th time in the club’s history that they reached 40 homers in a single month.

In spite of that …

Heath Hembree and Brandon Workman, two new bullpen editions, combined to give the game three homers to make the game should have been close.
