GLAAD Media Awards: Glee Cast To Meet To Honor Naya Rivera With Demi Lovato Presenting Tribute


The cast of Glee will come together to honor fellow cast member Naya Rivera at the 2021 GLAAD Media Awards next month, which will be eight months after her death from drowning last July.

The stars of the Fox musical series will be there to honor the 10th anniversary of Rivera’s character, Santana López, who comes out as a lesbian.

Demi Lovato played Santana’s girlfriend on Glee, Dani, and will present the tribute at the awards ceremony on Thursday, April 8.

The recognition will highlight the character’s impact on LGBTQ teens and the representation of Latinx LGBTQ on television.

The tribute will feature members of the Glee cast, including Jacob Artist, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Vanessa Lengies, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Alex Newell, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Becca Tobin and Jenna Ushkowitz.

Rivera played Santana for the entire duration of the series’ six seasons from 2009 to 2015.

Lovato played Santana’s love interest through four episodes in season five.

Rivera is believed to have drowned while swimming with his son Josey in Lake Piru in July.

Rivera is believed to have jumped into the water to help Josey get back on her small rental pontoon, but was unable to get back on board herself.

Josey, who was four years old at the time, was found sleeping and alone in the boat while sailing that afternoon, with no sign of his mother. The boy lives with his father and guardian, Rivera’s ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey.

The GLAAD Awards will undoubtedly be a star-studded event including Katy Perry, Dan Levy, Jim Parsons, Bretman Rock, JoJo Siwa, Sam Smith, Matt Bomer, Laverne Cox, Sterling K. Brown, Clea DuVall, Nyle DiMarco and Anthony Rapp. . They are all ready to make appearances.

RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni and the stars of the HBO reality show We Are Here: Bob The Drag Queen, DJ ‘Shangela’ Pierce and Eureka O’Hara, will also appear in addition to the cast of Venom.

As if that weren’t enough star power, Niecy Nash will host the event that recognizes and honors various branches of the media for their outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. .

GLAAD has partnered with Google to exclusively premiere GLAAD’s YouTube ceremony on Thursday, April 8 at 8pm ET.

The event will also air on Hulu on April 8 starting at 10 p.m. ET, and will be available to stream on demand on Hulu until the end of June.
