A man has been arrested after an eight-year-old girl was stabbed near Walsall, West Midlands police said.
Officers were called to Valley View, Brownhills, around 9:15 p.m. Saturday and found the girl, named by police as Mylee Billingham, with serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital and died a short time later.
A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was treated in the hospital for a knife wound in the stomach. Police said Sunday morning that he was in stable condition and would be questioned in due time.
A neighbor, Graham Greatrex, 74, told how he helped comfort Mylee's mother after the schoolgirl was seriously injured in Brownhills, near Walsall, on Saturday night.
Greatrex, who lives a few doors from the crime scene, told the Press Association that he went to help the mother. He said: "I just offered you a hot drink because it was a very cold night."
"She just said:" My partner stabbed my daughter. " I was in shock and could not say anything else. "

Greatrex said that a man had lived there for the past six months after the previous occupant, a woman, had died, but said he did not know the current occupant.

DI Jim Colclough, of the homicide unit, said:" We are treating this as a domestic incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the child's death. Other neighbors said they were also stunned by the news that a child had died.
Bob Weir, who lives two doors down from the bungalow where the stabbing occurred, said that Initially he had thought the incident was related to drugs.
