Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins agrees with Pittsburgh Steelers

A source agreed to a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after a meeting with the team on Thursday.

The quarterback was released a month earlier by the Washington football team, a day after which he lost to the Carolina Panthers. He was photographed without a mask at his girlfriend’s birthday party after the loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He was fined $ 40,000 for a second violation of the COVID-19 protocol and lost his captaincy.

He still started against the Panthers but played poorly and was benched. Haskins was then demoted in favor of one player, Taylor Heinicke, who signed to Washington’s practice squad less than a month ago. Haskins were abruptly released after the loss to Carolina.

“I told him that I believe it benefits both sides that we go our separate ways,” Washington coach Ron Rivera said in a statement at the time. “We would like to thank Dwayne for his contributions over his last two seasons and wish him all the best in the future.”

In a tweet, Haskins wrote: “I take full responsibility for not meeting the standards of an NFL QB and will be a better man and player because of this experience.”

He was drafted 15th overall by Washington in 2019 and was often criticized for his lack of work, a stint with his first NFL team.

His selection was run by owner Dan Snyder, who was going against the wishes of the football side of the franchise. The coaches were told by coaches at Ohio State that it would take time for them to mature as a professional and that the organization intended to have their entire traitors sit.

But Haskins began seven games as a rogue due to injuries to other quarterbacks and a poor record. After a disastrous quick showing, Haskins finished the season off with two good outings. In those games, he posted a combined 74.8 total QBR. But his total QBR for the season was 28 and this season it was 31.

The final child, Rivera, said Haskins had franchise-quarterback talent, but needed to become a leader. Nadisa was pleased with what she saw from Haskin at Offskin. Haskins received all first-team representatives at training camp and was named the starter at the end of August, though Rivera said he would have opened it up to a competition that had preseason games.

Haskins started the first four games, throwing four touchdown passes in three interceptions but one with a 29.8 total QBR. Several sources said he felt he was celebrating his first 300 yards of play in the locker room after a 14-point loss to Baltimore.

Rivera baked them for the following week; He remained inactive for the next four matches until starter Kyle Allen broke his ankle. The Hyssins relieved an injured Alex Smith for the second half of December 13 over San Francisco. Haskins started the next two games, but did not play well. In his final start, a 20–13 loss to Carolina, he posted a total of QBR 4.1.

The 23-year-old is represented by Brian Levy, who is also an agent for Mike Tomlin.

With his signature, the Steelers hint they are focusing on a future without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger – either this year or soon thereafter. The potential Hall of Famer has one year left on his contract, but he is yet to determine his future with the team. After the wild-card loss, Rothlisberger said he would pray about the decision and consult his family. He said that if he decides to return, he hopes the Steelers also want him back.

With the third-string quarterback Josh Dobbs hitting free agency in March, the Steelers are set to have Rothlisberger, Mason Rudolph and Haskins on the roster for 2021, although Rothlisberger comes with a $ 41.2 million cap charge.
