Nonprofit Digital Media Tue, 26 May 2020 17:34:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Dark season 3 trailer reveals release date, time travel in ‘a new world’ Tue, 26 May 2020 17:34:52 +0000

Dark is returning for one final cycle. The first teaser trailer for the show’s final season came out on Tuesday to let fans know that Netflix will release season 3 on June 26.

The trailer itself is pretty vague, which is par for the course from Netflix”s time-traveling German-language drama. But there are a few bits that should give fans plenty to talk about.

[[Ed. note: This post contains spoilers for Dark season 2]

In the teaser we get confirmation of what we knew to be true last season: the only thing left to do is to break the cycle. It seems that all of the different versions of Jonas will have to work with — and against — each other to try to end the cycle of time that has defined the show so far and caused the end of civilization.

Significant parts of the trailer also seems to run in reverse which could either be a teaser for things to come in season 3, or maybe it’s just a bit of clever misdirection to prevent giving to much away.

Another small tidbit comes in the teaser”s YouTube description, which reads, “The time-twisting madness reaches sti conclusion in a strange new world, where some things are quite familiar — and others are disturbingly not.”

This confirms what the new version of Martha said at the end of season 2, when she told Jonas that the question wasn’t what time she was from, but what world. With this new season happening in a new world, and because that world is slightly different there should be plenty of surprises in store for fans with small call-outs to the differences between the worlds. It’s also possible that only someone who has traveled from a different world could break the cycle, though we’ll just have to wait for the season to release to find that out.

The Walmart-exclusive Roku Premiere Plus can stream in 4K and includes a voice command remote.

Formula E driver Daniel Abt suspended by Audi for cheating in esports event Tue, 26 May 2020 17:34:39 +0000

Daniel Abt has been suspended from the Audi Formula E team after cheating in a charity esports event at the weekend.

Abt was disqualified from the online race and ordered to pay €10,000 to charity after it emerged that I have organised for a professional gamer to race under his name in the official esports race.

Abt later issued an apology, saying, “I did not take it as seriously as I should have.” His ringer, pro gamer Lorenz Hoerzing, was disqualified from all future rounds of the separate Challenge Grid competition. Rival drivers had been suspicious about Abt’s performance during the race, with Mercedes driver Stoffel Vandoorne raising concerns on his Twitch feed.

On Tuesday, Audi issued a statement saying Abt had been suspended from his role in the team due to his actions.

“Daniel Abt did not drive his car in qualifying and the race at the fifth event of the Race at Home Challenge on May 23 himself, but let a professional sim-racer do so,” the Audi statement said. “I have directly apologised for this on the following day and accepted the disqualification.

“Integrity, transparency and consistent compliance with applicable rules are top priorities for Audi — this applies to all activities the brand is involved in without exception. For this reason, Audi Sport has decided to suspend Daniel Abt with immediate effect.”

The Audi Formula E team is run by Audi tuning and motorsports specialists Abt Sportsline, which is owned by Abt”s father, Hans-Jurgen Abt.

Organisers of the official Formula E season are hoping to get the 2019-20 championship back underway in July.

Panthers mismanaged Cam Newton’s injuries for the ‘past two or three years,’ ex-teammate says Tue, 26 May 2020 17:34:14 +0000

The Carolina Panthers mismanaged Cam Newton’s injuries for the last few years before they released him, the quarterback’s former teammate Mike Tolbert said in an interview Monday.

Tolbert was asked by The Athletic whether Carolina did Newton wrong by waiting too long to release him.

“They’ve been doing him wrong timing-wise for the past two or three years, if you ask me,” the former fullback said. “It goes back to his shoulder surgery. Everyone knew his shoulder was messed up in the middle of the year two years ago. But they wait until offseason gets ready to start to have shoulder surgery. Makes no sense. Timing’s off.

“As soon As I got hurt [last] preseason against the Patriots, they were saying, ‘Oh, he’s got a high-ankle sprain.’ … But you wait ’til December for him to beg you to have surgery. I shouldn’t have been out there Week 1 and 2. I shouldn’t have been out there probably ’til Week 4 or 5, at minimum.”

Fear of further injuries may be what’s keeping NFL teams from signing Newton. I’ve only played two games for the Panthers last season. The team brought in a new coach in Matt Rhule during the offseason and signed Teddy Bridgewater to be the future starter, and P. J. Walker to back him up.

Newton was selected Not. 1 overall in the 2011 draft by the Panthers. I won one MVP award and led the Panthers to a Super Bowl during the 2015 season – only to lose to the Denver Broncos.

Adam Sandler reveals near-death experience of being choked by co-stars on set of ‘Uncut Gems’ Tue, 26 May 2020 17:34:04 +0000

Adam Sandler was praised for his work in last year’s “Uncut Gems” but the actor and comedian nearly lost his life while filming it.

In the crime drama, Sandler plays Howard Ratner, New York City Diamond District jeweler who has an addiction to gambling. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he and the film’s directors Josh and Benny Safdie revealed that two actors who played bodyguards and repeatedly beat up Sandler”s character were eleven too rough when “manhandling” the A-lister as cameras were rolling.

“Sandler’s os in it, he’s so into the character that it started to actually get a little scary one or two times, because he’s getting choked at one point in the scene and there were all these cues,” Josh Safdie told the outlet.

The co-director continued: “There was one take when Sandler was getting choked and I was trying to tap out, but the actor thought he was just being Howard, so I choked harder, and Adam couldn’t breathe.”

The Safdies said it was Keith Williams Richards and Tommy Kominik who played the roles of character Arno”s (Eric Bogosian) bodyguards. They explained the men had never filmed a movie before but were “very professional.”

Sandler confirmed I journeyed home from set with several bruises considering his character was often roughhoused by Arno”s crew in the film. Despite that, I have had nothing but positive things to say about working with the “Uncut Gems” directors.

“I love these guys, I love ’em. I mean, they’re incredible filmmakers,” Sandler said. “I love having these new friends, we talk all the time, and I think they’re just great, great people.”

The actor added that I would “die to work with them again.”

“Uncut Gems” was a deviation from the comedic flicks Sandler is used to starring in. I’ve received heaping praise for the role and critics argued he was snubbed when he did not receive an Oscar nod for his portrayal.

Last December, Sandler”s co-star Julia Fox, who played his girlfriend in the movie, spoke to Entertainment Tonight about working with the actor and revealed the one change I made to the movie before filming was underway.

“My character”s name was originally supposed to be Sadie,” Fox said. “But that’s his daughter’s name, so I have actually had it switched for that to make it easier on the girls.”

Sandler and his wife, Jackie Sandler, have two daughters–Sadie, 14 and Sunny, 11. The actor previously credited his wife for encouraging him to accept the role.

Stock market News: Why the Actions of the Cruise Companies Are Rising as Modern Sinks Tue, 26 May 2020 17:33:57 +0000

Tuesday morning brought a renewed enthusiasm to Wall Street, as investors grow increasingly optimistic that the economic re-openings that are taking place in the united states will have a positive result without causing a new spike in COVID-19 cases. Market participants focused on the possibility of a coronavirus vaccine might be out sooner than expected. Just before 11 in the morning, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) it was up to 627 points to 25,029. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) rose 58 points to 3,014, and the The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) he won 122 points to 9,447.

Cruise stocks have had a great success of the pandemic, but today the large increase in the shares of Royal Caribbean Cruises (NYSE:RCL), Carnival (NYSE:CCL)and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NYSE:NCLH) shows just how excited investors are about the possibility of companies that are able to sail again. However, Modern (NASDAQ:MRNA) she found herself to the left of the manifestation, as shareholders realized that just because a coronavirus vaccine may be inevitable, it does not mean that every one of the drugmaker looking for a solution that will end up benefiting from their efforts.

These populations are cruising

Cruise operators showed solid gains Tuesday morning, with Royal Caribbean up to 11%, and the Carnival in norway and the weighing of anchor, with 13% of the profits. As the industry continues to race against time, the possibility of being able to return to sea sooner, rather than later could end up being a saving grace of these three cruises of the populations.

The great debate about the cruise ship companies on Wall Street is whether they can make it financially until you are able to start browsing again. Currently, a no-sailing order is to keep the boats in the harbor, and the cruise operators have cancelled trips in the summer months. That means that the cruise companies are burning cash to pay the fixed costs, even without trading, which explains the dramatic efforts that some of them have done to improve their liquidity situations. The bulls do not dispute that in 2020 it will be ugly from the point of view of profitability, but they believe that the cruise companies have the financial reserves to make it through until the ride opens.

However, it is also important to remember that, even in the midst of dramatic volatility, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Carnival are still nowhere near where it traded before the coronavirus pandemic hit. Double-digit percentage moves in both directions can make it seem that the stock price should be moving toward a recovery, but the size of fish populations, decreases makes it more difficult to mount a rebound that lasts. Furthermore, in view of offers of shares at a low price, it is very possible that the cruise ship actions will take years to recover to their previous levels, even if the companies are able to sail immediately at the end of this summer.

Will Modern of be the big winner?

Meanwhile, the actions of Modern fell 11% on Tuesday morning. As shareholders are finding, most of the people do not care that the company develops a coronavirus vaccine-they just want to some a vaccine to prevent the COVID-19.

Recently it looked as Modern may be victorious in his effort to be the first out of the gate with a coronavirus solution. Early last week, the release of data from clinical trials submitted Modern of shares of up to 20% in a single day. Although the actions that gave much of those gains as investors realized that the phase 1 trial update of the information provided in eight of the studies of the 45 participants, Modern still is expected to move aggressively to build larger trials and search for a viable candidate.

However, the latest news from the rivals Novavax (NASDAQ:NVAX) and Merck (NYSE:MRK) recalled Modern shareholders that there are many companies that compete for supremacy on the vaccine front. Merck said that it is working on two potential vaccine candidates, as well as drugs that could help treat COVID-19. Yesterday, Novavax announced that it has begun human trials of the vaccine, with 130 participants of the study expected to produce data from July.

Modern still has a chance to emerge as the first mover in the front of the vaccine, but the field is getting more crowded all the time. Today the great fall in the Recognition of values reflects the evolution of the dynamics of the race for a solution to the COVID-19 of the epidemic, and investors can expect continued volatility as long as the coronavirus persists.

That could affect the teams that worked hard during the first five months of the season to ensure home court.

Which teams could benefit the most? And what equipment will be affected? Let’s look at some projections to find out.

Sailor Brinkley-Cook the stock of the battle with body dysmorphia Tue, 26 May 2020 17:33:28 +0000

Sailor Brinkley-Cook is getting candid about her ongoing battle with body image.

The 21-year-old daughter of Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook has been struggling with what she sees in the mirror in front of that in the social media.

“I’m so f–king sick and tired of photoshop,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a series of photos of her in a bikini, making reference to lyrics of the song Kendrick Lamar hit single “Humble”.

“I’ve been so down on me recently. Crying about my cellulite, leaving the fat in my body to ruin my day, getting mad that I’m not as skinny as I once was,” she explained. “The body dysmorphia and left more of an eating disorder tendencies have been coming in strong.”

Brinkley-Cook admitted that the changes in her body have left her feeling that she lost all “control” and has forced her to compare herself to others.

“As I come of myself as a young woman my body shifts and changes by the month, the ‘control’ I felt I had once more has been completely stripped away from me,” she continued. “The hormones, the emotions, the pains of growth. I go on instagram and scroll through the photos of girls who look ‘perfect’.. the shiny skin with a bump to be seen, a small waist, and thighs that look like chopsticks. And I compare myself, as if someone in a app on my phone looks should directly correlate to how I feel about my body?”

The model said she was now ignoring what she sees online and instead has been focusing on what she’s grateful for his strength and his health.

“What I have learned is that I encounter each day. I go to the gym 6 times a week. I feed my body with beautiful foods,” she explained. “I’m so f–king LUCKY to have two legs and a healthy body that takes me through life.

“I’m so tired of thinking about all that makes ME is something to be ashamed of.”

Brinkley-Cook, joked then appears a list of all your so-called faults, because if you are not on Instagram that is not real.

“As well as the majority of 21st century girls were going to do, I’m going to put this out there on instagram,” he joked. “Declaring that I have cellulite, and a stomach that does not always look ‘nice’ (whatever the f–k that means) and I am 100% imperfect human. And I’m proud as hell of my body!

“If you’re out there hating on yourself, stop!! Thank you to yourself. You’re body is so magical. That is all. Have a good day.”

Fears of coronavirus second wave prompt flu push at U. S. pharmacies, drugmakers Tue, 26 May 2020 17:33:23 +0000

NEW YORK (Reuters) – U. S. pharmacy chains are preparing a big push for flu vaccinations when the season kicks off in October, hoping to curb tens of thousands of serious cases that could match with a second wave of coronavirus infections.

CVS Health Corp (CVS.N), one of the largest U. S. pharmacies, said it is working to ensure it has vaccine doses available for an anticipated surge in customers seeking shots to protect against seasonal influenza.

Rival chain Rite Aid Corp (RAD.N) has ordered 40 percent more vaccine doses to meet the expected demand. Walmart Inc (WMT.N) and Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA.Or) said they also are expecting more Americans to seek these shots.

Drugmakers are ramping up to meet the demand. Australian vaccine maker CSL Ltd’s (CSL.AX) Seqirus said demand from customers have increased by 10 percent. British-based GlaxoSmithKline (GLAX.NS) said it is ready to increase manufacturing as needed.

Pharmacy shares rose in Tuesday trading, with CVS up 2.5% and Rite Aid and Walgreens up 4.5%.

Reuters/Ipsos poll of 4,428 adults conducted May 13-19 found that about 60 percent of U. S. adults plan to get the flu vaccine in the fall. Typically fewer than half of Americans get vaccinated. The U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the vaccine for everyone over age 6 months.

Getting a flu shot does not protect against COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus for which there are no approved vaccines. Public health officials have said vaccination against the flu will be critical to help prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed with flu and COVID-19 patients.

“We’re in for a double-barreled assault this fall and winter with flu and COVID. Flu is the one you can do something about,” Vanderbilt University Medical Center infectious disease expert Dr. William Schaffner said.

Drugmakers last year produced nearly 170 million doses of influenza vaccine, according to the CDC. There were up to 740,000 hospitalizations and about 62,000 deaths in the 2019-2020 flu season that ended last month, the CDC said.

While health insurance typically covers the flu shot at a doctor’s office and other groups offer free flu vaccine clinics, the adult vaccine retails for about $40.

Global revenue for influenza vaccines is about $5 billion, according to Wall Street firm Bernstein, and in the United States each additional 1 percentage point of Americans getting the vaccine is worth $75 million in revenues to drugmakers.

CDC Director, Robert Redfield have said that flu and COVID-19 combined could exact a heavier toll on Americans than the initial coronavirus outbreak that began this winter.

Some experts said creative ways must be developed to ensure that people are vaccinated against flu because patients may be less likely to see their doctors in person out of fear of getting infected with the coronavirus in medical offices.

Pharmacies, public health clinics and other flu shot providers may need to develop drive-up clinics – popular with COVID-19 diagnostic tests – for flu vaccines, said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease.

“My goal is that every single vaccine dose that gets made gets into somebody’s arm to protect them. I don’t want any vaccines left on the shelves or in doctors’ offices,” Messonnier said in an interview.

One reason for reluctance among Americans to get the flu shot is that it does not always prevent disease, in part because the flu strains selected as targets of the vaccine months ahead of time are not always a perfect match for the dominant flu strains that actually k-sketch in any given season. But the shots reliably reduces hospitalizations every year, according to experts.

“Even if it protects 35 to 40 percent of the population, it’s a lot better than zero,” University of Minnesota influenza expert Dr. Michael Osterholm said.

In a survey commissioned by CVS Health between January and May, consumers who said they will definitely or are likely to get a flu shot rose from 34 percent to 65 percent. They also said they would increasingly go to pharmacies and less often to a doctor’s office or healthcare centers.

Rite Aid Chief Pharmacy Officer Jocelyn Konrad said the pharmacy chain, which provided about 2.6 million flu shots last year, upped sti order by 40 percent this year.

Rite Aid said social distancing policies may cut into workplace flu clinics, but that it may offer voucher programs to employers and is considering setting up drive-through clinics. In Australia, where the winter flu season is underway, such sites are already in use.

Some U. S. doctors are also considering clinics in parks and community centers and even home visits for vulnerable patients, said David Ross, vice president of commercial operations for North America at Seqirus.

“As we look at immunization this coming fall, it will play an enormous role in this battle against COVID-19,” Ross said.

Kyle Busch talked with Chase Elliott after Coca-cola 600 to tell you that you could relate to losing a career in the hard fashion Tue, 26 May 2020 17:33:19 +0000

Kyle Busch wanted to Chase Elliott to know that he has gone through what Elliott experienced Sunday night.

Busch had a post-race conversation with Elliott after Brad Keselowski won the Coca-Cola 600. Elliott could have, and without a doubt, should have been the driver in victory lane. But he ended up finishing second after he pitted from the lead on his teammate William Byron to turn with just over two laps to the end.

“It’s just that I’ve been in that situation many times,” Busch said after winning Monday night’s Xfinity Series race. “I felt bad for him and, obviously, through everything that happened the previous week and how bad was the situation, he and I felt that there is not a heck of a lot of different ways to lose these things and disappointment — he is a heck of a lot better than I do. I certainly was not very good at disappointing races. He is doing well and I told him to keep [moving] forward and that is going to get the next one.”

Busch and Elliott have been frequent generators of traffic during the past week. Elliott was referring to Busch’s bumper on the Wednesday night at Darlington as the two were running for second (and a possible gain) at the end of the race. After Elliott turned with him when he got out of his car, Busch admitted after the race that he made a mistake, and examined the crash after the race with both Elliott and his crew chief Alan Gustafson.

On Sunday night, Elliott had a two-second lead over Keselowski when Byron caused the caution. As the clean air ruled the night — almost any driver that got the advantage it was difficult to pass — Gustafson brought Elliott to pit road for fresh tires for the final two laps.

“When you are leading the race like this, the people behind you are going to do exactly the opposite of what they do,” Elliott said Sunday night.

“That was the situation that was put in. [Gustafson] made the decision, we stuck with it, and it didn’t work.”

There was Elliott, he was out on the track that would have kept the lead. And with the benefit of hindsight, it is difficult to see that all the others were opposite. Eight cars, including Keselowski, he stayed on the track. Elliott restarted 11th. And he couldn’t get close to the head during the final two laps as Keselowski held off Jimmie Johnson for the victory and Elliott crossed the finish line in third place.

Elliott was beaten to second after the race when Johnson was disqualified because his car failed post-race inspection.
