A fatal car accident on Highway 101 in Sausalito early Sunday caused lane closures and traffic delays in San Francisco, authorities said.

The collision was reported about 9:30 a.m. at 101 southbound, just north of Spencer Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A white sedan rolled in the middle of the road. The number of victims and vehicles involved was not immediately available.

Only one road remained open to the south, which caused significant delays in the traffic of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Several lanes were expected to remain closed for an "extended period of time," according to the Southern Marin Fire District. The moment of reopening of the lanes was not estimated.

Motorists on their way to San Francisco were advised to take Interstate 580 to Interstate 80 and Bay Bridge.
