A “memory prosthesis” mind implant has enhanced human reminiscence for the primary time. The machine is comprised of electrodes implanted within the mind, and is designed to imitate the way in which we naturally course of recollections, and might increase efficiency on reminiscence exams by as much as 30 per cent. “We are writing the neural code to enhance memory function,” says Dong Song of the University of Southern California, who offered the findings on the Society for Neuroscience badembly in Washington DC over the weekend. “This has never been done before.”
The crew’s implant offers small electrical shocks to the hippocampus, a mind area important for studying and reminiscence. By releasing bursts of electrical energy in a sample that mimics regular, wholesome mind exercise patterns, it’s hoped that the machine will badist with issues involving reminiscence issues, similar to dementia, and even be tailored for different mind areas, to spice up different kinds of mind operate.
Song and his colleagues implanted their machine in 20 volunteers who had been having electrodes put into their brains anyway, to deal with epilepsy.
