Everyone seems to be making high-end headphones, except Google.

Microsoft Surface headphones Microsoft

  • Microsoft released a set of high-end wireless headphones in late 2018.
  • Now, reportedly, both Apple and Sonos are also making superior quality hearing aids.
  • Why are there no high-end headphones manufactured by Google?

In October of last year, we discovered that Microsoft had secretly developed a set of headphones to place over the ears of high-end that finally came to the market as Microsoft's surface hearing aids. The noise cancellation cans are intended to compete directly with the industrial standards of Bose QC35 and Sony WH-1000XM3.

Today, we have heard two new rumors about high-end headphones from leading technology companies. The first is not so surprising, and that the premium speaker manufacturer, Sonos, plans to launch a set of headphones that probably also compete with the Bose and Sony models. Those could be launched sometime in 2020.

Secondly, we heard a more surprising rumor, which is that Apple could be getting into the market of premium headphones by throwing a couple of cans of Apple. This is surprising because Apple paid $ 3 billion for Beats in 2014 and has sold the products of that brand in their own stores and elsewhere since then. In essence, a set of Apple headphones would put the company in competition with itself.

Microsoft joined the ring last year, and now, probably, Sonos and Apple will also participate in the premium headset game. Meanwhile, electronics companies in general such as TCL are diversifying into the budget and middle market.

All this raises the question: where is Google?

Of course, there are already two sets of hearing aids from Google: Google Pixel Buds and Google Pixel USB-C earbuds. However, none of these products would be considered high-end and neither will have the high-quality aura that only fully wireless headphones, with over-ear and noise-canceling capabilities can offer. It should also be said that the Google Pixel outbreaks, in particular, did not get the best reviews.

The headphone market is crowded, yes, but that does not seem to stop Apple. So, why would I stop Google?

Google may not see any reason to enter the market for premium headphones, which is already crowded, but this news from Apple and Sonos could force their hand, so to speak. After all, Apple's iPhone revenue is not where the company would want it to be, so it needs new products to bring in new cash. If Apple makes a great effort with a set of headphones that bear the name of Apple, Google has no choice but to respond, if only to maintain parity with the most successful company in the world.

However, when you think about it, a premium set of Google headphones will probably work very well, especially if Google's Google Assistant. And I'm not talking about having quick access to the Assistant on your phone through the headset, I'm talking about the Google Assistant working with the headset, even if your phone is not connected. It is likely that the earphones to place over the ears are large enough so that Google can place enough hardware inside so that they are like a smart speaker that you use in your head.

That's just an idea, but it shows that the fact that the premium headset market is crowded does not mean that Google can not offer something really attractive.

What you think? Would you buy a couple of phones with the Google brand "over-ear" if they had a price similar to something like the Bose QC35? Let us know in the comments.
