- An edge design similar to iPhone 5 or iPad Pro
- Many new colors depending on model
Newer iPhone models have moved away from the rounded edges used on the iPhone 11 and go back to flat-edge designs such as the iPhone 5 and iPad Pro. The rear of the phone will be familiar, with the Pro model having three cameras with LIDAR sensor for 3D scanning. The standard iPhone 12 model will have two cameras.
The Notch, where the Face ID sensor array, also known as the True Depth Camera, appears smaller, shrinking under the overall size of Apple’s notch that cuts across the top of the iPhone’s display.
Standard iPhone 12 models will continue to use an aluminum housing, and Pro models will stick to the stainless steel housing.
As per the colors, the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 will come in black, white, red, blue and green. Pro models will come in gold, silver, graphite and blue.
Does the iPhone 12 have 5G?
- Yes, all four models have 5G.
All four iPhone 12 models are capable of connecting to the 5G network. In the US, this means they include Sub 6 and MMWeb compatibility. The phone will have a smart data mode that will decide whether a task requires a 5G connection or not, and when it is not, it will instead use a 4G LTE connection. By doing this, the battery life will be saved.
Features, features and differences between iPhone 12 models
- All OLED displays
- Advanced AR Features on Pro Line
- Apple A14 Bionic Processor
- New wireless charging
- No 120 Hz is displayed this year
As previously discussed, Apple made the switch from the LCD panel to the base iPhone 12 model to use OLED panels across the line this year. OLED displays are bright, have better color contrast and deep black, and are considered a major upgrade to less expensive models.
Display sizes on the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 range from 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch, respectively, to 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch for the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, respectively. Even though the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have the same display size, and now the same display type, the biggest difference between the two is going to be the case material (aluminum vs. stainless steel) and camera features.
Apple worked with Corning to create a ceramic shield display, which incorporates ceramic material inside the display’s material, making the screen more durable. Apple claims 4x superior performance.
In September, Apple announced the power of the latest iPad Air to its A14 bionic processor, and as we expected, Apple is using the same 5nm processor in the iPhone 5 lineup. League of Legends Wild Rift will make its debut on the iPhone later this year thanks to the 5G and A14 bionic processors.
For camera updates, Apple has introduced Night Mode for every lens on the iPhone 12, including ultra-wide and front-facing cameras. Night mode time-lapse is also making its debut with the iPhone 12.
With the iPhone 12 Pro, Apple has added Deep Fusion to all cameras on the phone. There is still a wide, ultra-wide and telephoto. But the iPhone 12 Pro Max has new sensors throughout the camera array. The new telephoto camera is 65 mm (instead of 52 mm) with a 2.5 mm optical zoom, and similar improvements were seen in the standard wide camera.
Apple ProRAW will launch later this year on the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. This allows users to still take advantage of Apple’s image processor but provides users with a RAW file to manipulate and edit.
For video, the iPhone 12 Pro will get HDR video and Dolby Vision HDR, the first for any phone according to Apple, at 4K resolution and up to 60fps.
Finally, the new LIDAR sensor that Apple uses in the current iPad Pro lineup is now found in the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. By using Camera Array and new sensors, Apple and developers will be able to create better augmented reality applications, thanks to the 3D scanning technology the camera brings to the line. LiDAR also improves the camera experience, as well as sharper focus when sitting in low light.
There was a lot of speculation and the iPhone 12 Pro would have 120Hz promotion display technology on it, but that did not happen due to concerns about battery life.
The iPhone 12 still has wireless charging, but Apple is incorporating a new MagSafe feature, which uses magnets to place wireless chargers in place, ensuring a proper lineup of Qi coils. The iPhone 12 will charge up to 15W, which is double the previous speed of 7.5W.
