BRUSSELS – European activists protest against the upcoming appearance of US President Donald Trump in NATO , marching through the Belgian capital to advocate for less military spending and more public money for schools and clean energy.
The "Trump Not Welcome" march and an accompanying concert take place as European and North American leaders prepare to converge on the NATO headquarters in Brussels for an annual summit. Trump demands that NATO allies increase military spending, accusing them of not doing enough to defend themselves.
The organizers of the march oppose greater military spending. Activists fighting for the closure of coal and nuclear plants, the end of racism and sexism and stopping the austerity plans that hurt the poor joined Saturday's event.
NATO demands and Trump's climate and trade policies angered European leaders. summit on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
