A conservative Egyptian lawyer sparked main backlash throughout a televised panel dialogue when he mentioned it’s a man’s “national duty” to rape ladies sporting revealing clothes, based on Variety Alarabiya.

Nabih al-Wahsh appeared on the TV program Infrad Show,” which is hosted by Saeed Hbadaseen, to debate the controversy surrounding a draft legislation meant to battle prostitution in Egypt.

During the dialogue, al-Wahsh outraged Hbadaseen after claiming that girls who select to put on revealing clothes deserved to be raped.

“Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?” al-Wahsh pressed the host, based on a translation. “I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to badually harbad her and a national duty to rape her.”

“Women should respect themselves so others respect them. Protecting morals is extra vital than defending borders,” he added.

His contentious statements come simply weeks after Cairo was declared essentially the most harmful megacity on the earth for ladies.

The lawyer’s feedback prompted Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) to announce its plans to file a criticism in opposition to the tv channel and in opposition to al-Wahsh himself.

“Harbadment has nothing to do with a woman’s clothing,” Maya Morsi, head of the NCW, mentioned in a press release.

“Women and their freedom must be respected, and they must be protected in the street.”
