Edie Falco ‘to play Hillary Clinton in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series Impeachment: American Crime Story’

Edie Falco has landed the role of Hillary Clinton in the third installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, Impeachment: American Crime Story.

The 57-year-old Sopranos star will play the former first lady amid her husband President Bill Clinton’s sex scandal, Collider reported Thursday.

Falco joins a cast that includes Beanie Feldstein as former White House fellow Monica Lewinsky, Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp, and Clive Owen as Clinton.

American Crime Story: Impeachment will cover the aftermath of President Clinton’s affair with Lewinsky in 1995 and 1996.

Clinton was found to have been lying under oath about her affair with Lewinsky.

Clinton, the third sitting president to be formally charged with a crime, was acquitted of perjury and obstruction of justice charges in January 1999 and allowed to complete his second term.

The next installment in the American Crime Story series is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Toppled a President.

Filming has been postponed multiple times due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Falco played Carmelo Soprano on the hit HBO mobster series The Sopranos from 1999 to 2007.

His performance earned him multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.

Falco also won an Emmy for his role in the musical Nurse Jackie.
