E3 2018: Elder Scrolls 6 Boss knows the game's release date, but he will not tell you

Todd Howard, who is known for wearing very nice leather jackets, has given an update on the state of development of The Elder Scrolls VI and the new Starfield of the studio. Speaking to GameSpot at E3 2018, Howard said The Elder Scrolls VI is only in the "early" stages of development, while Starfield is more advanced and is likely to launch before the new Elder Scrolls game.

"It's in the concept and design [phase]," said Howard. Perhaps more intriguing, Howard said he knows the release date of The Elder Scrolls VI, but he will not tell you. "Yes. It would be silly to say it," he said.

For The Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda is taking the time to turn it into the game that fans want and expect from the studio. After all, Skyrim was a monumentally successful game from a critical and commercial perspective, so you have to fill big shoes. And Bethesda is known to outdo herself.

"Obviously we've taken our time with [The Elder Scrolls 6] instead of jumping directly to it," he said. "We know what we want it to be, and that will take time, technology, other things that we need to build to really carry it out, and that's what that franchise deserves."

Howard suggested that the ideas and ambition Bethesda has for The Elder Scrolls 6 might not be possible in the hardware of the current generation. He said in a Gameslice interview that Bethesda is "getting close" to the technology needed to run the game, suggesting that the PS4 and Xbox One are not capable enough to run the game as Bethesda wants.

As for Starfield, this game, which is the first new IP of Bethesda in a long time, can now be played and is in full production. As such, the game is expected to be released before The Elder Scrolls 6. In fact, Howard told GameSpot that the current release plan for the next great Bethesda Game Studios games will be Fallout 76, then Starfield, and then Elder Scrolls VI. However, Howard also said that Starfield might not launch on the current generation's hardware, so it could be a long time before we can play any of the titles.

No new Xbox or PlayStation consoles have been announced, but this week Microsoft announced that they are working on new consoles, while it is rumored that Sony is working on a PlayStation 5.

Bethesda announces Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI long before launch It is a remarkable change for the company, as it became known for announcing and launching games in short order.

The next great Bethesda game is Fallout 76, which is released in November for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Unlike previous games, it is a single online game focused on multiple players.
