It finally happened: Disney revealed the fate of Black widow. The film was supposed to be released in early May after its initial delay, but the pandemic is not in a place where it is possible to open theaters at full capacity and Disney still wants to try their luck at the box office. The company has now postponed the film’s release until July and confirmed that the highly anticipated Marvel movie will be available on Disney + premiere access the same day it hits theaters. Disney also moved the Shang-chi Premiere in early September but it was not delayed Eternal or Spider-Man: No way home. Moving Spider man 3 its December slot isn’t something Disney can decide on its own, anyway. But Sony would probably prefer to keep that release date of December 17 and make the most of the Christmas launch.
More important than all that, Marvel did not delay any of its release dates for the MCU films planned for 2022 and 2023. Furthermore, the company sneaked a surprise into its announcement that almost went unnoticed. It turns out that Marvel has five movies in the works for 2022, but the fifth title has yet to be revealed.

The pandemic forced Marvel to delay and reorganize its MCU plans more than once, and we ended up with an exciting release schedule for 2021 and 2022. We will get four movies per year, in addition to all the TV shows coming to Disney +. But it looks like 2022 will include a fifth unnamed title, based on the release schedule that Disney shipped with its Cruella Y Black widow announcement Tuesday. Below we will list the 2021-2023 Marvel movie release schedule from the new Disney update. Spider man 3 It is the only film that is not included in Disney’s list, but we will add it since the film is part of Phase 4 of the MCU.
- July 9th: Black widow
- September 3: Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings
- November 5th: Eternal
- December 17: Spider-Man: No Way Home
- March 25th: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Insanity
- May 6th: Thor: love and thunder
- July 8: Black panther 2
- October 7: Untitled MARVEL
- November 11th: Captain Marvel 2
- February 17: MARVEL UNTITLED
- May 5: Untitled MARVEL
- July 28: Untitled MARVEL
- November 3: UNTITLED MARVEL
The only thing that stands out is the date of October 7, 2022, when an “Untitled Marvel” movie will be released.
Marvel has already announced or confirmed several other MCU movies that are in development, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Fantastic four, Deadpool 3, and the Sword restart. Here are five movies that could fit nicely into the five “Untitled Marvel” slots mentioned above. Add to that the X-Men reboot, and Marvel might have additional surprises planned for years to come.
A leak a few weeks ago gave us Marvel’s tentative plans for 2023. Here’s a refresher:
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – February 17, 2023
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 5, 2023
- Fantastic four – July 28, 2023
- dead Pool – November 3, 2023
It should be noted that there is nothing official that relates those release dates to each particular title. Even assuming this plan is accurate, it still doesn’t explain what kind of Phase 4 movie would arrive on October 7, 2022. Perhaps one of the previous four movies will be released in 2022, in which case one of the 2023 slots would be freed for something else.
Disney did not address any of these release dates in its Tuesday press release. And it goes without saying that everything is subject to change. Maybe someone made a mistake, and there is no Marvel movie planned for October 7, 2022. We’ll have to wait for Marvel to reveal additional details about the MCU movies that will be released in 2022 and 2023. But have five Marvel movies in theaters next year is certainly something fans would get excited about.
