Afghanistan will embark on a new journey in its history of cricket when they make their test debut against a Virat Kohli without number 1 in the standings of India in the unique historical test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. Afghanistan, which is rising through the ranks of world cricket, has named a spin-heavy squadron for its debut Test to give India the taste of its own medicine. The team consists of five players from Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Zahir Khan and Hamza Kotak, who incidentally became the leader in the recent first class competition. India has a small advantage in the next Test as their hitters have already faced a pair of Afghan spinners in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Afghan stars Rashid and Mujeeb enjoyed successful campaigns at the IPL, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab respectively. But the home team has to be a little aware that it does not slip on a potential banana skin as they enter the game without any match practice. India also has a couple of new players on their team, which will make Rahane's task of finding the right combination a bit difficult. Three key players: regular captain Kohli along with quarterbacks Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have rested as they prepare for the challenging tour to England next month. New inclusions such as wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini and Karun Nair will try to make the most of this opportunity and would like to consolidate their place in the XI game. The batting department seems settled with people like Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Lokesh Rahul, Karun Nair and Dinesh Karthik. In the bowling department, India has the spin-star trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav along with the markers Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur. 08:45 IST : Hello and welcome to the live blog of Day 1 of the Single Test between India and Afghanistan directly from M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
Having won all of his last six Test Series at home in the previous season, the Indians are expected to sail easily as they attempt to start the season at a stop and take the confidence to the rubber of five tests in England. With a squadron full of gyrations, Afghans surely point to a fairytale start on their Test trip, as Captain Asghar Stanikzai also backed his spinners better than the home trio of Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep. In fact, the Indians have felt more or less comfortable against the slower bowlers in the previous season, except for the first Test against Australia in Pune last year. Afghanistan, on the other hand, will not find things too easy against experienced Indian activists. While star-studded bowling has garnered most of the attention, the Afghans would expect their hitters to contribute equally if they expect a dream start to their test trip.
