By road and track
The life of a test mule is short and cruel.
The process of development for a new car is a process of iteration, and that process requires the creation of real test examples to ensure both quality and durability. These cars exist for the sole purpose of the victim being pushed to their limits in far more odd situations than the average driver. This is indeed an essential element of the process of building a car, but is thanked for their work by crushing the mules.
With this in mind, a test mule has to suffer worse consequences like the Dearborn Fire Department did this 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 test car. Otherwise part of the live vehicle extraction training was set aside to prepare the department for the emergency response from which the vehicle was crushed. This process can be a waste of 760 horsepower, but ensures that the crusher is defeated.
