COVID Live Update: Vaccine volunteers continue to participate in clinical trials

NEW YORK (WABC) – The race to find a safe vaccine against COVID-19 continues in laboratories around the world.Thousands of top volunteers are rolling up their sleeves as some top pharmaceutical companies enter the final stages of the trial.

The groups most affected by the virus are less participating. Just last week, 17% of Modern participants were Hispanic and Latino. 9% were African American or Black.The participating volunteers feel that it is their responsibility to join.

Teachers union push to reopen delay
A renewed concern has been expressed by the United Federation of Teachers about the reopening of New York City schools after several staff members tested positive for COVID.

Spike in cases at the University of Albany
The University of Albany is seeing a spike in cases that may cause the closure of classes. There have been 40 positive cases among SUNY Albany students since the semester began. The school says it is working with the county health department to isolate students. Health officials say that if the outbreak is not brought under control, the school will have to cancel all individual activities.

COVID positive student attends school in CT
A school district in Connecticut is dealing with a potential COVID-19 nightmare after a student goes to school with the virus. The child was tested at Meriden, but did not have results before going to class, and he turned out positive. School officials say the parents broke the district’s rules, and now, the student’s entire class will have to quarantine for 14 days.

This week takes a full six months after theaters turn dark. This is unprecedented, and people who make their living on Broadway have to be creative to stay busy. For Lorges Patton, the breakout star of “Jagged Little Pill”, her show was supposed to go dark when she was finally making her mark after years of learning her craft. While she hopes to return to the stage as “Joe” next year, she is not yet hearing the applause every night.
