Covid-19 cases jump in Sun Belt nursing homes

Covid-19 infections are accelerating in Sun Belt nursing homes, federal data shows, a sign that the coronavirus is reaching the most vulnerable people there.

So far, emerging Covid-19 outbreaks in Tampa, Florida, Phoenix, Houston, and other parts of the south have been less deadly than the initial wave of the United States that emerged in March and April. One reason experts cite: Victims in states that rushed to reopen bars, restaurants, and churches after the initial shutdown tend to be younger and better able to fight the virus.
