For years it has been speculated that Jeff Bezos may try to buy an NFL team. For months there has been speculation that Bezos might try to buy the Washington soccer team.
Via AJ Perez of FrontOfficeSports.com, court documents filed in India regarding Daniel Snyder’s persistent defamation lawsuit link Bezos to the outside company that has been trying to find buyers for the minority stake in the team in power. by Dwight Schar, Fred Smith and Robert Rothman. .
However, it is important to remember that this does not mean that Bezos can buy the equipment. Instead, at most, you would be buying a limited stake that has no real power over the team.
The bigger question, not addressed by Pérez, is whether Bezos would buy the majority stake in the team. Before Bezos could do that, Snyder would have to be willing to sell the majority stake in the team. It isn’t, at least not currently.
The wild card becomes the pending investigation regarding various types of alleged or actual crimes involving the franchise and / or Snyder. If Snyder is ever pressured to sell and if he gives in to that pressure, Bezos could take a nosedive. That is a separate question from whether you buy a piece of equipment from Schar, Smith, and / or Rothman.
