Coronavirus: the number of serious patients falls below 200

The number of coronavirus patients in serious condition has dropped to 193, the lowest number since last July, the Health Ministry reported Monday.

The number of new daily cases has been steadily declining, and at the last count 2,270 people were infected with the virus. At the peak of the pandemic in the second half of January, there were more than 70,000 active cases, with about 1,200 people in serious condition.

Of those who were in serious condition, 77.6% had not been vaccinated, including three children.

141 new cases were identified on Monday, and 0.4% of some 37,000 tests were positive, the Health Ministry reported. The numbers are in line with those of previous days.

The reproduction rate, or “R”, which indicates the number of people each virus carrier will infect on average, has also been stable below 0.8 for several weeks, which means that the disease is constantly in recession. .

The number of daily deaths is also decreasing. Three people succumbed to the virus on Monday. In January, about 77 people died of COVID-19 in 24 hours. Since the start of the pandemic, some 6,338 people in Israel have lost their lives to the disease.

Israelis have not been forced to wear masks outdoors since Sunday, while children of all grades can return to classrooms full time without capsules.
