Nessel’s office accused Jacob Wohl and Jack Berkman of intimidating individual voters, conspiring to violate election law, using a computer to intimidate voters, and using a computer.
The attorney general’s office said targeted voters in two Democratic urban areas, such as Detroit, attempted to block residents from voting in the November election.
Wohl is a resident of Los Angeles, while Berkman is a resident of Arlington, Va. Nessel’s office said it was not yet clear whether he would need to be formally extradited to Michigan.
Her office said the Attorney General had communicated with the Attorney General of Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania and New York and all reported similar robberies, also largely targeting minority areas.
“Any attempt to interfere with, intimidate or deliberately confuse Michigan voters will be met with swift and dire consequences,” Nessel said. “This effort specifically targeted minority voters in an effort to prevent them from voting in the November election. All of us are well aware of the frustrations caused by the millions of robberies that have raged on our cell phones and landlines daily, but this particular message gives serious consequences for our democracy and the principles on which it was built. Michigan voters are entitled to a full, free and fair election in November and my office will not hesitate to pursue those who jeopardize it. ”
