Compton shooting: $ 100k reward in search of La County County gunman

The department’s watchers on Saturday night said a 31-year-old mother and a 24-year-old man – were hospitalized and “fighting for their lives”.

As of Sunday, “it looks like they are going to be able to recover,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.

“We’ll see what the long-term effect is. We don’t know it yet, but they survived the worst.”

Local authorities announced a $ 100,000 reward for the reported arrest and conviction of the gunman.

How was the ambush

The shooting occurred just before 7 pm Saturday at the MLK Transit Center in Compton, Los Angeles County Sheriff Department.

The gunman drove from the passenger’s car, picked up a pistol and shot both deputies, Capt. Kent Wegner said.

“It’s just a reminder that this is a dangerous job, and actions and words have consequences. Our work is not easy because people don’t like law enforcement,” Villanueva said. “It bothers me. It kills me at the same time.”

Both deputies were sworn in 14 months ago, Pradhan said.

Trump, Biden and Schiff condemned the attack

Both President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden condemned the shooting.

Trump told a group of supporters in Las Vegas on Sunday, “When we find that person, we got along very quickly with our Courts, and we got very hard with our sentence.”

Biden called the shooting “absolutely subliminal”.

“The chaos and violence directed against police officers is unacceptable, disrespectful and outright vengeful for the pursuit of greater peace and justice in America,” Biden said in a statement.

Democratic US Rep. Adam Schiff, whose district covered parts of Los Angeles County, called the attack “cowardly”.

“Every day, law enforcement officers put themselves in danger to protect our community” Schiff tweeted. “I hope the perpetrator of this cowardly attack can be brought to justice quickly.”
