In the Maya area of ​​Quintana Roo, specifically in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, there is a digital manufacturing laboratory in which users can take advantage of the state-of-the-art technology available to manufacture utensils, accessories and artifacts that come to mind. The name of this site is: Fab Lab Maya .

The Fab Lab Maya has the registration of the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and member of the global network of Fab Labs endorsed by the Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Trinidad Gómez Machuca is one of the co-founders of this Fab Lab whose purpose is to allow the development of the communities where they are based on innovation, team learning and the entrepreneurial capacities of individuals.

In our country there are 15 Fab Labs, and in the world there are more than 1200 distributed in 30 countries. Trinidad Gómez Machuca shares the mission of this Fab Lab Maya:

Within the Fab Lab Maya operate three programs aimed at different audiences and objectives, the first is Maker Kids aimed at children and young people, where they learn about the prototypes, programming languages ​​and the value of creating from ideas.

The second program is called Mayan Tech with funds from INADEM, it is presented as a business incubator for entrepreneurs in technology. In this program, educational institutions and young people make a commitment to create innovative proposals that lay the foundations of business. Up to now of the Fab Lab Maya they have left the prototype of a hand that is capable of translating sign language and a highly efficient irrigation system.

The last program, is perhaps the most important, because it trains the producers to create their crafts with the help of machines, it is called Fab Crafts all over the world there are only two laboratories besides the Maya Zone that have this program, one is in China and the other in Italy.

In the near future, biotextiles will be created, and most importantly, from now on, the seeds of curiosity will be sown in the new generations to enable them to learn to use science and technology to help the development of their communities.
