CINCINNATI – Bengals rookie wide receiver John Ross had been hiding an injury to his left shoulder and finally "came out clean" on Wednesday, coach Marvin Lewis told Ross Tucker during an interview on SiriusXM Radio.
on Wednesday, hours after Lewis said the little-used Ross might have the opportunity to play this weekend.
The injury is unrelated to the right shoulder injury that caused Ross to undergo surgery before the draft and rejected his Bengals practice debut to the last training camp.
The No. 9 overall pick has been a healthy scratch most of the year after recovering from a knee injury he suffered in the final preseason game. Ross returned week 2 but was sent to the bench after losing his only game of the game.
He injured his knee again and later admitted that he forced himself to return before he was completely healed and did not communicate how he felt to the team.
Ross played in only three games this season with two goals, no sacks and a carry for 12 yards.
