A 7-year-old girl died Saturday after being shot while attending a July 4 family party in the Austin neighborhood, the third consecutive weekend in which a boy under the age of 10 has been the victim of gun violence. .

The girl was playing on a sidewalk around 7 p.m. in the 100 block of North Latrobe when three men got out of a white car and fired more than 20 rounds toward the people organizing the party, a group that included many children. , cops said.

The girl, identified by the family as Natalie Wallace, received a blow to the forehead and a 32-year-old man was injured.

Natalie was taken to Stroger Hospital but was later pronounced dead, police said.

“On a day when families should celebrate, have a good time, spend time together, they took away a 7-year-old girl,” said Chicago Police Chief of Operations Fred Waller.

Waller said police had good video evidence of the scene but did not offer details.

The family said that Natalie was fun, open and loved being outside. He loved posing for photos and rushed to kiss her cheek.

The girl was visiting her grandmother’s house for the family party when more than 20 shots rang out, police said.

The injured man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle and a leg injury. It was in good condition, police said.
