After setting ambitious revenue and user growth targets last month, Twitter is gearing up for what could be its most transformative period.
After CEO Jack Dorsey’s leadership came under scrutiny last year from activist investors, Twitter has stepped up development of new features, introducing numerous changes and preparing for even more. This change comes as the company recovers from the era of former President Donald Trump, who was finally ousted from service in January.
Entering a new stage, this is who leads Twitter in 2021.
Jack Dorsey: Founder and CEO
Despite being the CEO, Dorsey is often featured as excerpted from Twitter. Blame it on his dual role as CEO of Square, his tendency to take off for weeks at meditation retreats, his talk about moving to Africa, and his quirky appearance, which includes tattoos, piercings and a wizard’s beard. A recent example came when the platform decided to permanently ban Donald Trump: Dorsey was reportedly on vacation on an island in French Polynesia when the fateful decision was rendered.

Dorsey helped invent Twitter in 2006 while working as one of the few employees at Obvious Corporation, the company that preceded him. Dorsey was the original CEO of Twitter, but was forced to resign in 2008 and then returned to the helm of Twitter as interim CEO in June 2015. He was appointed permanent CEO a few months later.
Since his return, the company has had ups and downs, but has generally been on an upward trend. The company’s stock price has risen more than 70% since June 2015, and its annual revenue has grown almost 68% from $ 2.22 billion in 2015 to $ 3.72 billion in 2020.
Dorsey’s leadership came under fire in early 2020 when activist hedge fund Elliott Management launched a campaign to remove him as CEO. The challenge was resolved when Twitter reached an agreement with Elliott Management and Silver Lake, giving each investment firm a seat on the board.
Since then, Twitter has accelerated its product development, especially by launching ephemeral fleets in 2020 and testing a virtual audio room feature called Spaces.
More importantly, the company last month announced ambitious goals of doubling its revenue to at least $ 7.5 billion and reaching 315 million monetizable daily active users (mDAUs) by the end of 2023.

Prior to Twitter, Segal was Senior Vice President of Finance for Intuit’s Small Business Group and was CFO of RPX, a patent risk management services company. That experience with finance, technology, and the combination of the two makes you an ideal CFO of technology.
Segal may have proven his worth in 2020, playing a pivotal role in brokering the Elliott Management deal, a former employee said.
Vijaya Gadde: Legal, political and trust manager
As the highest-ranking woman on Twitter, Gadde is responsible for handling some of the company’s toughest tasks, including legal matters and everything related to public policy and trust and security on the platform. That means if the company has a problem with harassment, misinformation or Washington, Gadde’s people are handling it.
Gadde is said to loathe public speaking, but over the past year he has escalated further. In particular, Gadde has intensified the use of his Twitter account to announce and explain the company’s decisions regarding public policy.
She played a crucial role in determining what to do with former President Donald Trump’s account following the January 6 uprising on the US Capitol. The company ultimately decided to permanently ban Trump.
Former employees say Gadde does not have the final say on what the company decides to do regarding its policies. Dorsey retains that power. But 99% of the time, Dorsey follows Gadde’s recommendations, former employees said.
Parag Agrawal – Chief Technology Officer
Agrawal is one of Twitter’s top technology executives. He is in charge of the strategy involving artificial intelligence and machine learning, according to his bio.
Agrawal leads the Bluesky Project, an independent effort to build an open standard for social media. That means creating technology and protocols that allow content posted on one social media service to function across multiple social media, similar to how emails can be read by any email service.
Bluesky is a visionary and priority project for Dorsey, former employees said. That is why he entrusted his leadership to Agrawal.
Mike Montano: Head of Engineering
In recent years, Twitter has revamped its technical infrastructure to be able to create new products more quickly. Montano, the company’s engineering leader, has been instrumental in that review. The company has credited the modernization of its technical infrastructure as the catalyst behind the creation of new functions, such as Fleet and Spaces.

Bruce Falck – Revenue Product Leader
While Beykpour leads the software development of Twitter user products, Falck is his counterpart for products used by marketers. Your team is tasked with creating the tools that your company’s customers use to post ads on Twitter and target them to users of the service.
Falck’s team recently revamped Twitter’s mobile app promotion. Marketers use MAP to run direct response ads on Twitter, which is a pool of ad dollars that the company has barely tapped into. The production of Falck’s team will be crucial for Twitter to reach its goal of doubling its annual revenue by the end of 2023.
Matt Derella – Global Vice President, Revenue and Content Alliances

Derella’s responsibilities include coming up with Twitter’s sales strategy and increasing revenue.
Dantley Davis: Head of Design and Research
Davis leads the team that decides what the company’s products look like and is responsible for teams investigating the products to determine what kinds of products the company should build next and how consumers use the company’s products, an employee said. .
