Result of the image for Google Apple

Apple (AAPL) and Alphabet (GOOG) are two members of the exclusive FAANG club. The two companies have a market capitalization of more than $ 806 billion and $ 763 billion, respectively, and are some of the most followed companies on Wall Street. So far this year, the prices of the shares of the two companies have risen by 8% and 6% respectively. Some time ago, after publishing this article in Apple, a reader sent me a message asking me to compare which company, between Apple and Alphabet, was a better investment. In this article, I will compare the two companies and conclude with what I would recommend as a long-term investment.

For this part, I will compare how the two make money. In the last twelve months, Apple has generated revenues of more than $ 261 billion. Most of this revenue comes from the iPhone, which accounts for more than 62% of total sales. With the iPhone's revenues starting to slow down, the company moved into the service sector that generated more than $ 10.2 billion in the fourth quarter. Their other income comes from computer products such as iPad and Mac. Geographically, the United States is the largest source of income, followed by Europe and China.

Apple is loved by investors because of the high margins it generates from sales. In the last gains, the company had gross margins of 38%, but EBITDA and net profit margins of 33% and 23% respectively. These margins are higher than those of other hardware companies. However, as the company changes its focus to the services segment, these margins could begin to decrease.

In the same period, Alphabet generated more than $ 145 billion in revenue. The majority of these revenues came from the Google segment, which includes all advertising products. As companies shift their advertising budgets from traditional to digital media, Alphabet has become a winner due to the search function, YouTube and Android in the market. Alphabet has gross margins of 54%, and EBITDA and net profit margins of 32% and 22% respectively. The reason for the relatively low profit margin is that what your spending is increasing in an attempt to accelerate growth. I believe that in the long term, Alphabet's margins will increase as current investments begin to mature.

Balance sheet

Apple has an excellent balance with more than $ 373 billion in total assets. Of these, the current assets are $ 140 billion. Cash and short-term investments are more than $ 86 billion. On the liabilities side, the company has total liabilities of more than $ 258 billion. From this, it has a combined short and long-term debt of more than $ 110 billion. The stockholders' equity reaches more than $ 117 billion. The strong balance sheet has allowed Apple to return money to investors through share buybacks and dividends. In the last five years, the company has issued dividends worth almost $ 70 billion and bought shares worth more than $ 280 billion.

The alphabet, on the other hand, has total assets of more than $ 273 billion. It has cash and short-term investments of more than $ 109 billion and combined current assets of more than $ 135 billion. Its total liabilities are $ 55 billion. It has no short-term debt, but owes more than $ 3.9 billion in long-term debt. Net worth is more than $ 177 billion. Even with this balance sheet, Apple does not issue dividends, but it has spent more than $ 30 billion on repurchasing shares in the last five years. There is a possibility that the company will begin to return money to investors through dividends in the coming years.

The future

With the slowdown in Apple's core segment, the company is betting on the services segment. This segment includes products such as Apple Pay, Apple Music, Apple Appstore and Apple Carplay. Already, this segment has begun to generate excellent growth for the company with quarterly revenues of more than $ 10 billion.

It also plans to launch a video streaming service to compete with Netflix (NFLX). While the streaming industry faces high competition, Apple could become a big player in the industry due to its large installed base. It has also begun to create partnerships with other television companies such as Samsung and LG. However, this will not be an easy industry for the company because it will pursue other companies such as Netflix, Disney (DIS) and Amazon, which have a large library of original programming.

In the future, Alphabet has a number of advantages over Apple. First, Apple is already established in China, where it earns revenues of more than $ 50 billion. The problem is that China's Apple smartphone competitors such as Huawei and OnePlus are gaining market share, which has led to a slowdown in Apple's growth. The alphabet, on the other hand, has more space to grow in China through its Android product. The almost monopoly of Android in China will be maintained because Android is free to use for manufacturers. As the economy grows, Alphabet could generate more revenue from the app store in China. The company is also considering relaunching the search product in China.

Second, Alphabet has invested billions of dollars in the Waymo product. In the Alphabet reports, Waymo belongs to the Other Betting segment, which represents a small amount of Alphabet's total revenue. This could change once Waymo starts generating revenue. In fact, analysts value Waymo alone at more than $ 100 billion. In a recent note, UBS analysts say Waymo will generate more than $ 114 billion in 2030.

Third, Alphabet will continue to be the market leader in online marketing. It is expected that this industry has a CAGR of 21% until 2026. Of all the major companies in this space, Amazon, Twitter (TWTR) and Snap (SNAP), the best positioned is. This is due to the search ability itself and does not have a significant competitor. He owns Android, where he does not have a major competitor and also owns YouTube, another platform with no significant competitor. With this ecosystem, GOOG will continue to be the largest advertiser in the world.

Fourth, GOOG has invested billions through the Google Ventures platform. The notable companies in which he has invested are Uber (UBER), Slack and Stripe, among others. He had also invested in public companies such as DocuSign (DOCU) and Hubspot (HUBS). Other companies that have been acquired are Jet, Collaborate and Flatiron Medicine. As Uber and Slack will come out this year, the company could see a big return on investments. Apple, on the other hand, does not have a venture capital arm unlike other technology companies such as Microsoft, Salesforce (CRM) and IBM (IBM). In contrast, Apple focuses on private investments such as Didi and Finiser. He has also invested a part of the funds for the Vision Fund. Therefore, from the point of view of the companies, I believe that Alphabet is better positioned for growth than Apple.

In addition, GOOG is a more diversified company unlike Apple. In this, the company has spent years creating products for both consumers and business customers. For the company, relatively newer products such as the cloud are beginning to bear fruit. According to Citi (C), GOOG, which is the fifth largest cloud company in the world, could see its revenue in the cloud reach more than $ 17 billion in 2020. GOOG has also increased its focus on consumer products , with its Google Pixel devices receiving good reviews. Your other devices like Google Home Hub also receive good reviews. He has also ventured into artificial intelligence, cognitive science and medical research. Although these products will continue to form a small part of the general income of the portfolio, I believe that diversification is an advantage for the company. Apple, on the other hand, has been a successful consumer-oriented company. This is not all bad because Apple has been really good at consumer products. However, I believe that the diversification of GOOG into all its products gives it an advantage over the real.

The two companies face a series of challenges. Apple faces the challenge of reducing iPhone sales and this week it was revealed that several of its applications are recording the user's screen without their permission. This is risky for Apple, a company that has long been associated as a privacy advocate. Apple also faces the challenge of finding a high-margin hardware product like the iPhone. His recent attempts to enter the smart speaker industry have not been very successful.

Alphabet on the other hand faces the challenge of regulations. In recent years, the company has received heavy fines from the European Union and more similar fines are expected. The company will also be the biggest victim in the Article 13 rules proposed by the union. It also faces the scrutiny of lawmakers from several countries about spreading false news through its platforms. The two companies face the challenge of companies such as Netflix and Epic Games, owners of Fortnite, which are moving away from the respective application stores.

Verdict: Alphabet wins

To be clear, GOOG and Apple are great companies that have changed the world for the better. The two companies also face a series of challenges in terms of privacy and regulations. However, as an investment, I think what is a better company than Apple. First, the company has more than $ 109 billion in cash and very little debt. This means that you will most likely start returning cash to investors in the form of dividends within a few years. Second, GOOG still has the largest market share in online ads and there is no close competitor. This is different from Apple, whose main product faces a great threat from other phone manufacturers such as Huawei, Samsung and OnePlus. Third, as mentioned above, GOOG is a more diversified company than Apple that generates revenue from both business customers and individuals. Fourth, GOOG has invested billions in research areas focused on cognitive solutions, health and biosciences, and life sciences, among other areas. These investments could help him become the biggest player in these industries.

Revelation: I am / we are a long time, AAPL. I wrote this article myself, and expressed my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (except for part of Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose actions are mentioned in this article.

Apple in talks to create the subscription service "Netflix for news" Wed, 13 Feb 2019 15:00:05 +0000

Apple in talks to create the subscription service

Valentina paladino

Apple CEO Tim Cook alluded to more services that will come this year, and this week we are learning more about what the company has for news. According to a report in The Wall Street JournalApple has been in discussions with publishers about a subscription news service that would be a new level of payment for their existing Apple News application. However, the company has been colliding with the publishers for the monetary details: Apple apparently wants to keep 50 percent of the subscription revenue from the service.

This service called "Netflix for news" would allow customers to access an unlimited amount of content from the included publishers for a monthly fee. The service could be around $ 10 per month, similar to Apple Music, but the cost has not yet been finalized.

Apple has spoken with publishers including The New York Times, the Washington PostY The Wall Street Journal, but they (and others) have concerns about the Apple terms. The company wants 50 percent of the revenue for itself, and the remaining 50 percent will be divided among the participating publishers "according to the amount of time users spend on their articles."

In addition, Apple would not share customer data with publishers. Information that includes credit card numbers and email addresses will not be provided to publishers if they agree to Apple's terms in their current version. That information can be crucial for publishers to increase their subscriber base, market new products to readers and more.

This is not the first time that Apple has proposed strong demands to potential and existing partners. According to reports, the iPhone manufacturer has had creative differences with some movie creators and television programs with which the company is working to produce original content for Apple's upcoming TV broadcast service. Apple has replaced the showrunners and has even eliminated the projects completely to avoid presenting content that has "gratuitous sex, insults or violence".

The company reportedly wants to complete its television subscription service, which is also scheduled to debut this year, with family content. The subscription news service, in addition to the TV broadcasting service, is key to Apple's growth in the coming years, as the company focuses more on the services business than on device sales. While iPhone sales continue to trend downward, Apple's services business reached $ 10.9 billion in revenue in the last quarter, and Apple will not slow down on that front.

But Apple may have to work hard to obtain content licenses of the necessary number of publishers to create a paid news subscription service. Having requested publications that cover a variety of topics will be key to the success of the service.

The Apple News paid service could debut next month. A BuzzFeed News report suggests that Apple is planning an event "focused on subscription services" for March 25. In the past, the company launched new iPads at the March events, so it would be surprising if this event did not include at least one hardware ad. We are currently waiting for Apple to launch new AirPods and a new version of the iPad Mini.

Made by Google 2019: Pixel 4, Home, watch, Nest Cam Wed, 13 Feb 2019 14:40:11 +0000

According to a report this morning from a reputable Japanese newspaper. Nikkei, the hardware line Made by Google for 2019 is practically what we expected: there is an economic pixel just around the corner, a Google Pixel 4 premium in the works, a new Google Home, a first-person smart watch and a new Nest Cam. .

Offer: Get Pixelbook with a 25% discount: $ 750!

The report details many things that we already knew for the most part, but declares them as part of the plan for this year. with almost certainty by "industry sources". On the one hand, the publication reiterates many previous reports and rumors that, yes, a budget of Google Pixel 3 "Lite" will be launched this year, which will undermine the price of the iPhone XR.

Google's new smartphone will be its first non-premium model aimed at price-sensitive customers and those in emerging markets. It is expected to be priced lower than Apple's cheapest iPhone, the XR, which starts at $ 749.

Android policeDavid Ruddock previously reported that Google Pixel 3 "Lite" and Google Pixel 3 XL "Lite" will be launched on Verizon in the United States "this spring."

Although it's easy to assume considering that we've seen a new Google home page every year since 2016 (not to mention the evidence we've uncovered in relation to a larger Google Home Hub), the report says that it will launch "a version updated "of the Google homepage this year. It is not clear if this means a "second generation" of the home page of Google Home or a new homepage in its entirety.

The company will also release an updated version of its signature smart speaker, Google Home, this year, as well as a new smart watch to compete with the Apple Watch, said the person familiar with the plan.

The highly anticipated Pixel Watch will also finally see its debut this year. The notorious escape Evan Blass said last year that Pixel Watch was scheduled to launch at the Google 2018 hardware event, but that was not successful. Our sources have said that the watch was planned to be released last year, but it was delayed.

Finally, the report says that a person with "direct knowledge of the matter" said that Google also plans to renew its Nest Cam line. 9to5Google reported earlier this year that Google is working on a brand change of Nest after its integration into the Google hardware team.

A person with direct knowledge of the matter told Nikkei that Google plans to launch a new security camera later this year after he has integrated the Nest Labs team, the technology startup he acquired in 2014. Nest Labs has been building cameras of security for domestic use since 2015.

This is just the beginning of the rumor cycle for Made by Google's 2019 hardware line, so stay tuned as things develop. The growth of Google Pixel's main line and its fourth iteration this year is enough to excite itself, but it seems that Google will not take a year off in its increasingly broad line of other products.

The huge leak shows the Samsung Galaxy S10 + in action in a practical video – BGR Wed, 13 Feb 2019 14:33:02 +0000

The Samsung Galaxy S10 event is scheduled to take place exactly one week from today in San Francisco, California. But when the Unpacked press conference of February 20 finally arrives at the company, we are pretty sure there will be no surprises in store. The Galaxy S10 series of flagship phones has been presented in innumerable leaks in recent months, and we already know practically everything there is to know about the devices. Three new flagship phones will be included in the first wave of Samsung launches: the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S10 + and an entry-level model called the Galaxy S10e that will face Apple's iPhone XR.

After a year, when Samsung launched three of the most boring flagship phones we've seen (the Galaxy S9, S9 + and Note 9), the Galaxy S10 series will help Samsung to start 2019 with force. As we know? Because all the designs and features of the phones have already been filtered, and they look fantastic. In fact, yesterday, a massive leak exceeded all specifications for the three new Galaxy S10 models. They will be elegant, they will be powerful and they will be a complete reimagining of Samsung's flagship phones. Now, a new escape gives us what could be our best aspect so far in the new and more amazing Galaxy S10 phone that will be presented next week.

We've seen it in renderings, we've seen it in photos, and now we're seeing our best look even in Samsung's next flagship line in 2019: the Galaxy S10 +. This beast of a smartphone will have five different cameras, including a matrix of triple lenses on the back and two selfies cameras on the front, a large dynamic screen AMOLED HDR + Infinity O 6.3 inches with a pixel density of 522 ppi, a new all screen design with small bevels and an oblong hole cut off the screen for selfies cameras, powerful next-generation 8nm processors, up to 12GB of RAM, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded underneath of the screen, a large 4,100 mAh battery, Android 9.0 with Samsung's new UI interface, and much more.

There is a small and precious question that the Galaxy S10 + will be the most desirable new model in the Samsung GalaxyS 2019 Samsung line, at least until the even bigger 5G model is released later this year. And now, a new handy video on YouTube has just been released that shows the Galaxy S10 + in action.

This new video, which was shared by a smartphone accessories retailer called MobileFun, is not an in-depth look at the phone. Still, we can have a very good idea of how big the new Galaxy S10 + is in one hand. We can also see a screen protector on the phone that includes two cutouts, one for the oblong hole in the upper right corner where the cameras are located and a second hole where we hope the fingerprint scanner will be located on the screen. It is a horrible design that would make the use of the phone a nightmare, so we assume that it is only a layer of protection that comes from the phone immediately. We can not imagine that a third-party accessory manufacturer is stupid enough to design a screensaver like that.

You will find the handy Galaxy S10 + video that was leaked below, and we hope it will help you for a week until Samsung introduces the three new Galaxy S10 models on February 20. Anticipated orders are expected to open later that week, and the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 + will be launched in early March. A fourth new model with an even bigger screen and 5G compatibility should debut a few months later, maybe around the same time as Samsung's first folding Galaxy phone, which we also hope to see at next week's event.

New updates of Windows 10: these are the errors that Microsoft has just solved Wed, 13 Feb 2019 14:26:47 +0000

Along with the monthly security patches on Tuesday, Microsoft has released new versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 for users in the April 2018 updates and the October 2018 updates.

The Windows update of October 10, 2018, or version 1809, has now been increased to the number of compilation 17763.316. Fixes several errors but does not contain new features.

The update fixes an error in Microsoft Edge that prevents the browser from connecting to a site using an IP address. It also fixes an error that causes the Hello for Business Hybrid Key Trust Windows deployment login to fail if the Windows 2019 Server domain controllers are used for authentication.

Additionally, it fixed a security bug in Microsoft's HoloLens that allows users to bypass the lock screen in some circumstances.

The build contains the patches on Tuesday from Microsoft patches that fixed 77 security flaws for all supported versions of Windows, including some that affect Windows 10.

Security patches for address failures of version 1809 in Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Edge, Windows Server, Microsoft JET Database Engine, Internet Explorer, Windows wireless networks, Windows storage and file systems, Windows input and composition, Windows graphics and Windows applications platform and Frames

There is a known problem in this update that causes the abbreviated data of the previously abbreviated Japanese data and time chains to no longer be analyzed. Microsoft has described a solution.

The update of April 2018, or version 1803, moves this version update to compilation 17134.590. It largely contains the same errors and security solutions, but it also adds top-level domain support in Edge and Internet Explorer for strict HTTP transport (HSTS) security preload.

SEE: 20 professional tips to make Windows 10 work the way you want (free PDF)

Microsoft notes that after installing this update, some users of the 1803 version can not set a web link in the Start menu or in the taskbar. Microsoft is working on a resolution.

Fortunately, Windows users should be able to use Windows Update after recent DNS problems. Microsoft explained last week that Windows Update could not be accessed due to an interruption in an external DNS service provider. But just before Patch Tuesday, he offered a clearer explanation of why users could not connect to Windows Update, even though the interruption was resolved on January 30.

Microsoft clarified that the problem was not due to a problem with its services, but said it will work with its partners to avoid future interruptions for its customers. If customers still can not access Windows Update, Microsoft recommends that users communicate with their ISP, which should have already updated their DNS servers.

"A software update for the external provider's DNS servers resulted in the distribution of corrupted DNS records that affected connectivity to the Windows update service." DNS records were restored until January 30, 2019 (00:10 UTC), but the subsequent effects continued, "Microsoft explained.

"We believe that the problem has been completely mitigated because most of the local Internet service providers have updated their DNS servers and services have been restored to the client, if you still have download failures, contact your local ISP."

Microsoft added: "While this was not a problem with Microsoft services, we take any interruption of service seriously for our customers, we will work with partners to better understand this in order to offer a higher quality service in the future, including through from various global network providers. "

Amazon and Google are pushing smart home firms to report every waking moment Wed, 13 Feb 2019 14:17:49 +0000

Amazon and Google are pushing smart home firms to report every waking moment

I know what you did with that cucumber.

AMAZON AND GOOGLE You could be monitoring your most intimate habits through the gadgets of your smart home.

A report of Bloomberg suggests that both companies are making progress to increase data collection from devices connected to their respective smart speakers: Amazon Echo / Alexa and Google Home / Assistant.

For several years, both companies have kept the details of each action controlled through their systems: lights, plugs, stamps, everything.

But now it seems that several companies have been asked to provide a "continuous flow" of data, regardless of whether the device was activated by their system or directly from the manufacturers' application.

Since companies like Logitech Harmony and SmartThings are smart device centers, this could give the two technological giants a lot of new data. Intelligent remotes will tell you what you see. Turning off the light will tell you what time you go to bed. Intelligent locks will tell you whether or not they are compromised. And all this could tell you if you are at home or not, if the location data is not.

All these data combined and analyzed (probably by AI) could give a disturbing picture of your life and, along with your phone, will not be limited to your home.

"You can learn the behaviors of a family based on their patterns," says Brad Russell, who traces smart home products to researcher Parks Associates Inc. "One of the most fundamental things is occupation, there's a lot you could do with that. "

It is said that some companies are rejecting, but the teesandes of all these products do not seem to limit the amount that Google and Amazon can learn and deduct.

"Over-sharing from over-sharing is probably never a good thing," says Ian Crowe, senior director of Logitech. "We should have a good reason, and our users should agree that it is a good reason," before sharing data.

Logitech offered to tell Amazon and Google that the TV is on without going into details, but now it seems they want more.

Several smart home manufacturers say they have been told that the commitment is not good enough.

The danger here is that smart home products run the risk of betraying our trust, or the risk of being eliminated from the potentially lucrative deals with Amazon and Google.

Amazon has said Bloomberg does not sell user data. It is not the point. μ

Notch vs. screen Punch, which is better? Wed, 13 Feb 2019 14:11:49 +0000

If there is a 2018 smartphone trend that will go down in history, it is likely to be the infamous notch. 2018 is the year that manufacturers really got on the first-class car, to the point that it was a bit difficult to buy a phone without one.

As we make our way until 2019, it seems that the category will be taking a step back to the latest trend of the drilling screens. The Honor View 20 is one of the first phones to be launched with this type of screen, and in just a few days, we hope that Samsung also presents its Galaxy S10 with perforated panels.

We have already discussed this point several times here AC, but now we would like to know about the members of our forum. Which of these trends do you prefer?

RTX 2080 performance, at a price. Wed, 13 Feb 2019 14:05:14 +0000

Last year, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang presented the original Aero 15X as an example of what manufacturers could do with their Max-Q graphics, starting a boom in laptops for lightweight and thin but powerful games. This year, he took the Aero 15Y. It is still only 19 mm thick, but it is a little heavier, with 4.5 pounds. That is still quite impressive considering the new internal parts.

The only RTX 2080 Max-Q model that is lightest is the 4.2 pound GS65 Stealth from MSI. However, that laptop has a smaller battery and, as you will soon find out, that makes a big difference. The Omen 15 of HP has a RTX 2070 Max-Q and weighs 5.2 pounds, the m15 of Alienware weighs 4.8 pounds, while the ROG Zephyrus S of ASUS, with graphics RTX 2080 Max-Q, weighs just one touch more than 4.6 pounds . None of those weights includes the heavy-power brick often, of course.

Otherwise, the Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 has exactly the same low profile design as the latest model, with only a triangular textured area as a nod to its game genes. It has small bevels, which makes the laptop smaller than its 15.6-inch screen suggests, and easily fits into the back pocket of my Peak Design messenger bag.

Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 gaming laptop with graphics NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q "data-caption =" Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 gaming laptop with NVIDIA RTX 2080 graphics Max-Q "data-credit =" Engadget "data-credit- link-back = "" data-dam-provider = "Engadget" data-local-id = "local-1-1682530-1549886656903" data-media-id = "9c758e3d-d45e-4f31-bc93-51e82faafe99" data-original -url = "" data-title = "Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 laptop for games with NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics "src =" 2Fos% 2Fcreatr-uploaded-images% 2F2019-02% 2Fa8e3c3c0-2df4-11e9-a5bf-321781a7ec08 & client = a1acac3e1b3290917d92 and signature = 57484be518b068cb790347fbd39475347f539</p>
<p>The company was wise not to change; The design of the Aero 15X looks smart and will not be out of place in any office or production house. I liked the latest model enough to buy one myself.</p>
<p>There is a great variety of ports. It gets two USB 3.1 ports (5 Gbps), a USB 3.1 Gen2 port of higher speed (10 Gbps), Ethernet, a Thunderbolt on USB type C, an SD card reader UHS-II, an HDMI 2.0 port and a 3.5 connector mm. headphone jack / microphone.</p>
<p>However, the new Aero 15 Y9 also includes DisplayPort 1.4 over USB Type-C, instead of a separate Mini DisplayPort like the Aero 15X. The data speeds are the same, but I had to buy a new cable (USB Type-C to DisplayPort 1.4) to get the best performance from my HDR screen. It is worth mentioning that all these ports work at their nominal speeds (verified), which is not always the case with laptops.</p>

<p>Due to the discreet design and high-end components, the Aero 15 Y9 is equally suitable for games and content creation. To be sure, the model I tried had the specifications of the upper drawer. It includes an Intel Core i9-8950H six-core CPU, NVD Intel 760p 2TB SSD, 32GB of RAM (upgradable to 64GB), NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics, a 94 Wh battery and a 4K 60Hz display. Gigabyte will finally launch a similar model with a 1080p screen at 144Hz that will undoubtedly be more suitable for games and will have a much longer battery life.</p>
<p style=Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 gaming laptop with graphics NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q "data-caption =" Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 gaming laptop with NVIDIA RTX 2080 graphics Max-Q "data-credit =" Engadget "data-credit- link-back = "" data-dam-provider = "Engadget" data-local-id = "local-2-8510270-1549886744566" data-media-id = "7152db36-962c-4cd6-88b8-49516a60229c" data-original -url = "" data-title = "Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 notebook for games with NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics "src =" 2Fos% 2Fcreatr-uploaded-images% 2F2019-02% 2Fa83d2380-2df4-11e9-bf7f-c3b0f235bbca & client = a1acac3e1b3290917d2285246774 /</p>
<p>While playing in 4K, I constantly saw speeds of 29 fps in <em>Shadow of the assailant's grave </em>with graphics settings "higher". I achieved similar results with <em>Hitman 2</em>And, subjectively, both games were played fairly well with little stuttering or tearing. With 1080p with the same configuration, both games reach 60 fps, maximizing the synchronization speed on the laptop screen. That's not bad, but it's about 33 percent less than the 45 fps you can get in 4K with the desktop RTX 2080 card. The GTX 1080 Max-Q can run the same reference point at around 22 fps, so the RTX 2080 Max-Q is approximately 30 percent faster.</p>
<p>The most notable new feature, apart from the hardware, is AI Gaming + & Professional +. When you play or run graphics software, it uses cloud-driven artificial intelligence (either from Gigabyte or Microsoft's Azure) to adjust the performance and speeds of computer fanatics to optimize game frame rates. In practice, running the <em>Shadow of the assailant's grave</em> point of reference, I found that it increased the speeds of 4K frames in a single frame or two per second in any of the modes.</p>
<p>There is no way to control it, just run it in "border" (Gigabyte), "cloud" (Microsoft) or disabled mode. Given the minor performance improvements, it was not particularly useful. However, it is supposed to learn and become smarter over time, so it may improve in the future.</p>
<p>As for the veined ray tracing (RT), I could only use it in a game: <em>Battlefield v</em>. You need a very specific PC configuration that includes the latest version of Windows 10 (version 1806) and recent NVIDIA drivers. I love pretty graphics, and ray tracing is delivered, sometimes, with reflections, realistic lighting and more atmospheric games. A recent NVIDIA patch offers improved RT performance in<em> Battlefield v</em>, and I discovered that I could play without problems at 1080p or less. In 4K, there was a bit of stuttering and delay with the enabled function, unfortunately.</p>
<p>Gigabyte, like many laptop manufacturers, uses the NVIDIA Optimus system, which switches between the Intel Iris 630 and discrete graphics to balance performance and battery life. If you use your laptop with an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort, it will be powered exclusively by NVIDIA graphics. That means you can connect an external monitor with a higher refresh rate and benefit from better speeds and features like NVIDIA's HDR and G-SYNC.</p>
<p>The 4K AUO screen is quite beautiful. It covers 100 percent of the Adobe RGB range and is calibrated at the factory with the Pantone configuration. I found that it worked well for watching movies, games and creating content with accurate colors. However, unlike the upcoming Dell and HP OLED display models, it can not handle HDR. At 283 nits, the screen is moderately, but not incredibly, bright. Even so, if you like the 4K resolution, like me, the Netflix movies and games looked incredibly clear and, as far as color is concerned, everything was beautiful and compelling.</p>
<p>In addition to the higher resolution screen, the GPU is another attractive feature for video editors and graphics professionals. The RTX 2080 is the first NVIDIA GPU to support full H.265 HEVC RGB 4K 10-bit decoding, which will eventually make YouTube playback and H.265 video editing smoother.</p>
<p>NVIDIA also joined forces with RED to support playback of 8K video files, which will make video editing and effects much less annoying. I tried to download one (courtesy of Phil Holland), along with Redcine X from RED, and I can confirm that I was able to play a high-fat 8K RED video clip, which is a bit crazy on a laptop.</p>

<p>It also felt much faster than my Aero 15X similarly equipped for video editing. I took this video in 10-bit 4K and exported the clips with 1080p color correction faster than in real time. Exports in general seemed to be much faster than on my GTX 1080 Max-Q Aero 15X laptop, and for video professionals, that's a big time saver. It also quite flew to show and render 3D animations using 3DS Max software from Autodesk.</p>
<p>The Aero 15 Y9 got a little warmer than my Aero 15X, helped by the double fans that drive the air down and out. I was able to place it in my lap during the game sessions, and it never felt uncomfortably warm. The new model was also a little quieter, with a reduction in fan noise, except for more challenging graphics and game play tasks.</p>
<p>As for the writing and the mouse, I liked the keyboard of my Aero 15X, so I am pleased that it has not changed in the new model. Gigabyte fixed the trackpad, luckily, and was less rigid and more precise than the previous one. It's actually pretty good now, and unfortunately, that's more than you can say for most Windows laptops.</p>
<p>In our battery depletion tests, in which an HD video loop was placed until the power ran out, the Aero 15 Y9 ran for three and a half hours. While that may seem sad next to the previous model, which lasted almost eight hours, it is typical of laptops with 4K screens. Calculating and pushing quadruples of pixels has a big impact on battery life, and screens have a lot of power. As mentioned, Gigabyte will soon release a 1080p version with a much faster 144Hz update frequency version of the Aero 15 Y9, and should last much longer on a single charge.</p>
<p>Instead of using Dolby Atmos for audio, as before, the latest model features Nahimic 3D audio for players. That will not make a big difference, since Dolby Atmos on laptops has nothing to do with a true home theater system: it's more about branding than about anything else. Two-watt external speakers still have a tin quality, and basses are just a distant dream.</p>
<p style=Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 gaming laptop with graphics NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q "data-caption =" Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 gaming laptop with NVIDIA RTX 2080 graphics Max-Q "data-credit =" Engadget "data-credit- link-back = "" data-dam-provider = "Engadget" data-local-id = "local-4-6549598-1549888967722" data-media-id = "7152db36-962c-4cd6-88b8-49516a60229c" data-original -url = "" data-title = "Gigabyte Aero 15 Y9 notebook for games with NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics "src =" 2Fos% 2Fcreatr-uploaded-images% 2F2019-02% 2Fa83d2380-2df4-11e9-bf7f-c3b0f235bbca & client = a1acac3e1b3290917d92d signature & 767e02400888bd64e3332352429daa8758476dd "</p>
<p>As you might expect, given the components, the Aero 15 Y9 is expensive. If I wanted the same equipment that I have tried, it will cost $ 3,999, while the base version of the Aero 15 Y9, with a 144Hz screen at 1080p, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB screen is $ 2,700. These sums are out of reach for most players, but they are available to many content creators who make their living with their computers.</p>
<p>The move to the Aero 15 X9 will save you a decent sum. It comes with RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics, an Intel Core i7-8750H CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD and a 1080p screen at 144Hz starting at $ 2,400. For that model, expect a slight drop in performance, but it should be a little faster than a GTX 1080 Max-Q laptop. In comparison, last year, the Aero 15X started at $ 2,200.</p>
<p>With prices like that, the Gigabyte Aero 15 series is clearly not for everyone. However, it is competitive with other RTX models such as Razer's new Blade model, which starts at $ 2,999 with a Max-Q RTX 2080 GPU and will probably be almost the same as the Aero 15 Y9 with similar components. It is likely that other models of Dell, Alienware, ASUS and MSI are in that range, since it has become an ultra competitive category.</p>

<p>As the first RTX 2080 Max-Q notebook we've had the chance to review, the Aero 15 Y9 from Gigabyte really showed us the best, and the worst, of modern gaming laptops. On the one hand, it's amazing that I can get so much power in a portable device, allowing me to play, watch movies and work wherever I go. However, prices continue to rise and yield gains are getting smaller and smaller. Now we have reached a point where we are discussing a feature like ray tracing, which only works in a single game.</p>
<p>Although it's not Gigabyte's fault. He took the components he had and made a well designed, fast and lightweight laptop that can overcome the most challenging games and content creation tasks. The company did it even better with adjustments in the touchpad and elsewhere, and the only drawback of this particular model (or any 4K laptop) is the battery life. It is also expensive, but, once again, the price should be maintained for the rivals. In general, the Aero 15 Y9 is an easy-to-recommend laptop.</p>
