In an intimate conversation with Mariah Carey for Interview magazine, 28-year-old Cardi talks about growing up in the Bronx and then her rise to fame, which helped her transform her appearance after years of being bullied.

Mariah, 50, asks Cardi if she feels vindicated now, after becoming a big star and showing all her critics how far she has come.
‘I feel so vindicated. Even when I was 18 and became a dancer, I had enough money to buy breasts, so any insecurity I felt about my breasts disappeared.
‘When I was 20, I went to the urban strip club, and in urban strip clubs, you had to have a big butt. So I felt insecure about it. It took me back to high school. So I did my ass. And then I felt super safe.
“When I was younger, I really didn’t know how to care for my hair. So now I make my own hair mask and take care of my natural hair, and it makes me feel better, like what people said about me wasn’t true. My hair wasn’t bad because it was a diaper. My hair was bad because I didn’t know how to take care of it. ‘
