A California resident who was vaccinated against COVID-19 died just hours later – and authorities are trying to figure out why.
The Placer County Sheriff Office announced the death and investigation in a Facebook post on Saturday, but provided few details.
Police said the county, which is in the greater Sacramento area, was “recently notified” of the person’s death.
The person tested positive for coronavirus in December and was vaccinated just hours before his 21 January death.
There was no indication which vaccine the person was given.
“Many local, state and federal agencies are actively investigating this matter; Any reports surrounding the cause of death are premature, pending the outcome of the investigation. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased, ”the sheriff’s office wrote.
An autopsy will be performed on Monday, the sheriff’s office told CBS’s Sacramento.
