BOSTON (WHDH) – Just six days after hospital authorities identified the COVID-19 cluster, Brigham and Women’s Hospital has identified more cases.

In an update released on Monday, hospital officials confirmed that 30 of the 488 employees tied to the outbreak tested positive.

Officials said they have tested 581 patients in all unaccompanied areas, and 12 have tested positive. Those positive cases were also identified in relation to the first cluster.

All current inpatients for COVID-19 are tested every three days in addition to a test that is performed on admission and daily screening for symptoms.

The infection control team said that they believed the cluster to be contained in two specific incipient units at Braunwald Tower.

It does not affect other areas of the hospital or outpatient clinics.

As of Monday, 4,365 employees had voluntarily tested the virus. Seven of the 2,589 results returned were positive – two of which were clustered.
