Blue Jackets acquire draft pick from New Jersey for D. Ryan Murray

Columbus Blue Jackets traded defenseman Ryan Murray In the 2021 NHL Draft for the club’s fifth round in the New Jersey Devils, the Blue Jackets general manager and alternate governor, Jermao Kekelain, announced tonight.

The 27-year-old Murray was selected by Columbus as the second overall pick on the 2012 NHL Draft. In 347 career games with the Blue Jackets, he registered 15 goals and 95 for 110 points with 104 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus / minus rating of +13 over seven seasons on the 2013 penalty. He added 1-2-3 and four PIMs in 20 career Stanley Cup playoff appearances.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Murray collected 2–7–9 and four PIMs in 27 games during the 2019–20 regular season, before adding 1–0–1 and two PIMs in nine playoff matches. His best season with the Blue Jackets was 2018–19, when career highs were 1-28–29, 10 PIMs and +20 in 56 games.
