AutoNation to provide service to Waymo’s self-driving cars

AutoNation Inc. has partnered with Waymo, Google’s self-driving automotive affiliate, in a multi-year service settlement.

AutoNation will present “strategic capabilities to maximize the self-driving vehicle fleet’s life across the United States,” the nation’s largest new-vehicle retailer stated in a press release Thursday.

Under the deal, AutoNation will initially work with Waymo’s autonomous automobile program within the Phoenix and northern California markets.

Waymo has been creating self-driving expertise for eight years. It goals to convey Level four automation — which means the automobile can drive with out human supervision in outlined situations — to the general public.

Waymo is testing autonomous automobiles in six states: Michigan, Texas, Arizona, Washington, Nevada and California. AutoNation stated it plans to develop with Waymo as the corporate provides manufacturers and enters new markets.

AutoNation, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., ranks No. 1 on Automotive News‘ record of the highest 150 dealership teams based mostly within the U.S., with retail gross sales of 337,622 new automobiles in 2016.
