ARNOLD • An Arnold police officer was shot inside a police SUV by a suspect he was taking to the police department to be booked, authorities said.
The roads were closed so that the officer could be transferred to the hospital according to the police. His injuries were described as potentially fatal. He was shot in the head or neck, according to the captain of Jefferson County Sheriff Gary Higginbotham.
The suspect was also shot in the head, although it was not clear if the wound was self-inflicted, Higginbotham said. That man was also taken to a hospital. Your condition was not available.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Officers are investigating at the station at 2101 Jeffco Boulevard.
The officer was bringing the suspect to the station to be searched as part of an investigation into robbery or theft, Higginbotham said. The officers inside the station saw that the SUV was approaching an exit port, where the suspects are taken inside, with a camera. But when the officer never entered, the officers left and found that the officer's SUV crashed and both men were seriously injured inside.
The car had the driver's side door open and the scene was surrounded by a police tape after the shooting.
The officer was transferred to St. Anthony's Medical Center in the south of the county.
