Apple’s ‘iPhone 12’ and new iPads rumored to debut in October, 5G iPhone potentially delayed

Prolific leaker John Proser said in a tweet on Wednesday that Apple’s upcoming “iPhone 12” lineup and slate of new iPads will begin in October, according to statements by Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala.

Prosser’s tweet, which reads, “iPhone 12 […] New ipad […] October,” It shows Apple plans to announce or launch a slate of next-generation handsets and tablets a month later than its typical September release window. While the new iPhones are widely expected this fall, Apple is also rumored to have a 10.8-inch iPad Air and a refreshed iPad Mini model for sale.

Palkhiwala revealed a similar timeline in an interview Reuters. On Wednesday, the executive announced a possible October launch for the 5G-enabled iPhone.

Commenting on Chipmacher’s third fiscal quarter, Palkhiwala said that Qualcomm expects lower revenue in the coming quarter due to the delay of “flagship phone launches”. Analysts believe that the handset is the iPhone.

“We are seeing partial impact of the delay in the launch of a flagship phone,” said Palkhiwala. “And so what we have seen is a slight delay that drives some units for us from the September quarter to the December quarter.”

Qualcomm will supply the baseband chipset for the 5G iPhone as part of a modem licensing deal and settlement, ending an worldwide legal battle with Apple. The device powered by Qualcomm will be the Cupertino tech giant’s first entry into the 5G arena.

Today’s Rumble follows the predictions of the leaker “iHacktu Pro”, which claimed last week that Apple planned to hold its annual iPhone event in September. With the new iPhone and “Apple Watch Series 6” models, the event is rumored to bring word of a refreshed iPad and a revived AirPower wireless charging device. Leaker anticipates holding another gathering in October to announce his first Apple Silicon Mac, a new iPad Pro, and “Apple Glass”.
