Apple leak confirms new MacBook ripping

The latest documents filed by Apple confirm that a new MacBook is on its way. Now the question is if geekerati should be ready to accept a tweak for an existing laptop, or be excited for the first Mac machine with an ARM processor.

The new information also comes with Apple’s filing to cover a new device with a 49.9 watt battery with officials from China (3C) and Denmark (UL Demco). The big giveaway is that the trademark owner is listed as Apple.

Although it does not say ‘it is a new MacBook’ it is possible to extrapolate from the data here and the currently released Apple hardware, and get an answer. Chance Miller goes to Colombo:

“The 4,380mAh battery listed in this filing is relatively small in terms of Mac but it could be destined for the MacBook Air. For example, the 16-inch MacBook Pro has an 8,000mAh battery. The 13-inch MacBook Air has a battery of about 5,100mAh. The wattage listed here is also interesting. The filing shows that the Mac is under consideration as a 49.9-watt battery, similar to the 13-inch MacBook Air and less than the 13-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. “

The simplest answer (‘Another MacBook Air is coming’) is also the best answer. Not because of regular special updates to the venerable Ultrabook line, as it did four months ago. But because if it is a lightweight MacOS laptop, it is visible when Apple’s Intel-powered portfolio is too fresh.

In which case the suspicion shifts away from the Intel line on Apple’s new adventure with MacOS on ARM. Developers currently have access to the Mac Mini style developer Transition Kit on loan from Apple, but the first consumer MacOS on an ARM device is expected to be both a laptop here and by the end of the year.

Could this be the first ARM laptop? This makes more sense than the March redesign of the MacBook Air. The small capacity of the battery may be indicative of a machine smaller than the existing air. Tim Cook and his team may decide that it does not want to disrupt the current market balance in any major way; Meaning the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro brands will not be relegated to the bleeding edge of the ARM revolution.

In which case, we can see the return of the single moniker. The new and revolutionary MacBook may just be… ‘MacBook’.
