Amazon is permanently banning customers who get too many rebates – BGR



One of the many advantages of buying on Amazon is the company's rather lenient return policy. If you are not happy with an item you bought, you can usually return it without much hbadle. But what you might not know is that if you're too smart to fire when it comes to returns, you could end up with a lifetime ban with no warning.

The Wall Street Journal reports that several Amazon customers have received emails telling them that their accounts have been closed due to an overabundance of returns. In many cases, customers were finally able to restore their accounts, but that is a surprisingly extreme measure for a company known for its excellent customer service. Imagine that you suddenly disconnect from all Amazon services just because you returned a pair of headphones.

"We want everyone to be able to use Amazon, but there are rare occasions when someone abuses our service for a long period of time." Amazon told the WSJ . "We never take these decisions lightly, but with more than 300 million customers worldwide, we take action when appropriate to protect the experience of all our customers."

After reading some of the stories of the affected customers in the piece, the main concern seems to be less about the fact that Amazon is banning the account, but instead the bans often come without any warning. Although Amazon occasionally sends email alerts about return activity, not all receive them first.

Former Amazon administrators inform WSJ that accounts may be canceled for "behaviors that include requesting too many refunds, returning incorrect items, or violating other rules, such as receiving compensation for writing reviews."
