Alicia Vikander, Joe Hartley and Naomi AK join the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award panel to select 2021 Menlist
A trio of actresses have been added to the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award panel to select the 2021 shortlist.
Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander, This Is England actress Jo Hartley and BAFTA winning actress Naomi Akei, have joined the roster with a line of industry experts to debate the merits of an already emerging talent list Are gathered together.
This is the first time a jury panel has had to complete a video conference to discuss this year’s shortlist of young and up-and-talented owing to the COVID-19 epidemic.

This is the 16th year the previous winners have been awarded, including Daniel Kaluya, Juno Temple, John Boyega, Tom Hardy, Jack O’Connell, Tom Holland and Kristen Stewart.
The award is the only 2021 EE BAFTA category that was voted for by the British public and voting will open on 3 March 2021, when the full shortlist will be revealed.
The jury said enthusiastically that which of the public votes will go ahead of the 2021 BAFTA.
Naomi, Joe and Alicia were lead directors Leo Davis (The Queen), Nina Gold (The King’s Speech) and Lucy Bevan (An Education), with producer and director Anand Tucker (The Girl with a Pearl Earring).

Creative director Gaylene Gould and various leading film and art journalists were also involved.
Alicia said: ‘Being the Nominee of the BAFTA EE Rising Star was an important marker of my career and it is a matter of pleasure and intentionally to honor the impressive panel of jurors as well as the shortlist for this year’s award.
“What a year it has been for the industry, seeing these new faces gives me hope and excitement for the coming years of the film.”
Joe said: ‘The film is really an escape during this period of isolation. Not only kept me entertained but also kept me motivated from business point of view.

Naomi told the trio, ‘It is a great honor for me to discuss very talented candidates this year.
‘It is very difficult to pick just five actors for this year’s shortlist and I am sure I will enjoy the work of all these actors for a long time to come. The industry is bursting with talent and with what we have collectively faced over the past year, I am very grateful that projects are still being built.

For me and I am sure that many others, art, in its many mediums, is an important and necessary relief, while we adapt to our new reality.
The EE Rising Star Award was created in honor of the late Mary Sellway. A highly respected and BAFTA Award-winning casting director whose 36-year career saw his work in more than ninety films and worked with lead directors such as Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood.
Mary’s work contributed to the making of some of the most memorable characters on the silver screen, and in 2001 she received BAFTA’s Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award.
Nominations for all categories at the EE British Academy Film Awards will be announced on 9 March, while the ceremony will be broadcast on 11 April on BBC One.
