A 33-year-old Alabama man with reported ties to the far-right militia group Oath Keepers was arrested Tuesday for his alleged role in the Capitol uprising, according to court documents.
Joshua James, of Arab, Alabama, was charged with obstruction of official proceedings and complicity, as well as trespassing on restricted buildings or land.
“James and other Oath Keepers stormed the Capitol, forcing Electoral College vote certification to be stopped,” the complaint says.
James is described in the document as dressed in military gear adorned with an Oath Keepers patch, indicating his connection to the group. Photos and videos taken after the assault on the Capitol also show James with a group of Oath Keepers.
“The publicly available video shows that, after storming tThe capitol James met with accused and non-accused individuals affiliated with the Oath Keepers, many of whom had also stormed the Capitol, and some of whom James had acted with January 5 and 6, 2021, ”the complaint reads.
The Oath Keepers is one of the groups investigated for their conspiracy to try to stop the electoral certification of January 6.
