Air France Emergency Landing On Disruptive Indian Passenger: Report

The Air France flight resumed its journey to New Delhi.

An Air France flight en route from Paris to New Delhi made an emergency landing at Sofia airport in Bulgaria on Friday around 5 pm (1500 GMT) due to a disturbing passenger, Bulgarian officials said on Saturday.

The passenger, an Indian national, began acting shortly after takeoff, fighting with other passengers, assaulting a flight attendant and banging on the cabin door, said Ivailo Angelov, an official with the National Investigation Agency.

His aggressive behavior led the flight commander to seek an emergency landing in Sofia. The man, whose name was not released, was removed from the aircraft and has been charged with endangering the safety of the flight. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

“We are investigating both his actions and his motives,” Angelov told reporters. “There is no reasonable explanation for his behavior,” Angelov said.
