After trying several times since 2015, WB Games has successfully secured a patent on the printed nemesis system Dead shadow And its sequel, Shadow of War. Patent becomes effective later this month.

As reported by IGNOn February 3, the US Patent and Trademark Office released Issue notice Confirming that WB Games’ patent on the system was approved and it will officially go into effect on February 23, 2021.

The nemesis system first appeared in the 2014 open-world-stab-ethon Dead shadow, And will be expanded in the 2017 sequel Shadow of War. The Nemesis system uses randomly generated orcs to populate the world. Players attack these attacks, sometimes killing them, taking control of them, or even losing to them. As these events occur, the orcs will react, become more powerful, gain new abilities and refer directly to previous experiences with the player. This is a good system. And soon, only one publisher, WB Games, will have the ability to use it.

Once the patent is activated, other developers or publishers will have to cut a deal with WB Games to use a nemesis system or face legal action.

Since 2015Soon after the release of Dead shadow, WB Games has failed to secure this patent. Previous issues included a lack of specificity, which is very important in one patent, and conflicts with other existing patents.

WB Games will have the ability to retain this patent until 2035, assuming they keep all their orcs in order legally and financially.
