Just days before the Asian Cricket Council meeting scheduled for March 3, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said the 2020 Asia Cup edition will be held in Dubai.
Pakistan would organize the tournament, but India was not prepared to travel to Pakistan. The BCCI had previously stated that it had no problem with Pakistan organizing the Asia Cup, as long as it was held in a neutral location.
In conversation with reporters in the Eden Gardens on Friday (February 28), Ganguly said, “Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play.”
Since 2012-2013, India and Pakistan have not seen each other in bilateral series due to political tensions between the two countries. However, they have played against each other in major ICC games and the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup, which is played every two years, has not been organized by Pakistan since 2008. Sri Lanka organized the 2010 edition, while the following three editions were held in Bangladesh. The last Asia Cup tournament took place in the UAE.
Since 2016, the Asia Cup has been on a rotation basis – alternating between T20Is and ODIs – with the 2020 edition as a T20 tournament in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
