JERUSALEM (AP) – The Palestinian president remains in hospital after being brought there with fever after a procedure of a minor ear.
The 83-year-old leader has suffered a series of recent health scares that have revived anxiety about who will succeed him.
Mahmoud Abbas was hospitalized on Sunday with a fever a few days after undergoing ear surgery. His condition was not immediately known on Monday.
Palestinian officials said on Sunday that Abbas had pneumonia, had a respirator and was receiving intravenous antibiotics. They said he was conscious and lucid.
Abbas, who is a heavy smoker and is overweight, has a long history of health problems, ranging from heart problems to an attack of prostate cancer a decade ago. Two years ago, she underwent an emergency cardiac procedure after suffering from exhaustion and chest pains.
