3,147 new COVID-19 cases in Alabama; After reviewing the death toll

Alabama added 3,147 new COVID-19 cases overnight.

Data from the Alabama Department of Public Health on January 13 at 10 am show that 410,995 cases of coronavirus have now been reported in the state. There are currently 3,076 people suffering from the virus in Alabama.

The state also added 187 deaths to bring the total to 5,760. The high total comes one day after 226 deaths were recorded.

The high numbers come after reviewing a large number of deaths from ADPH’s Alabama Center for Health Statistics. According to ADPH, the reviews have been completed on about two-thirds of the deaths and the process is expected to continue for a few more weeks. ADPH stated, “The results in the excess death toll may be historical and do not reflect recent mortality due to COVID-19.”

Reviewing the data is a standard procedure for COVID-19, as well as ADPH in other notable diseases. As part of the process for reporting deaths, each death is reviewed as records are received and investigations are opened. Death reporting may be delayed due to receiving information from hospitals, coroners, and other institutions that send records to ADPH, ”the agency said in an announcement. “Upon further investigation, some deaths may be removed from the data count, as there may be duplicate records, deaths that were reported as COVID-19, but are not found to be responsible for this virus, Or in rare instances, a death may be reported and the person is not deceased. “
