According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, three Arizona men were arrested in Goleta on Thursday in connection with a robbery that occurred hours earlier in Carpanthia.
Rafael Jick, sheriff’s public information officer, said that after a woman reported that duty was sent to Chevron gas station at Via Real and Santa Monica Road in Carpentaria at 5:15 am at about 5:40 am.
The woman was allegedly in a vehicle with three men when robbed by them, and they left her behind, and fled, Zick said.
About three hours later, a vigilante citizen learning about the robbery incident reported to sheriff’s dispatchers that the suspect’s vehicle, which apparently contained a flat tire, was in a tire store on the 200 block of South Fairview Avenue.
Deputies converged in the area, and took three people into custody without incident.
Zick said that one of the men was armed with a gun.
South Fairview Avenue was closed or for a short time while the depot arrested the trio.
As of mid-afternoon, three people – whose names were not yet available – were still being questioned, Zick said, and had not been booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
Details were not available on the charges he is facing.
Zick praised the citizen who reported the suspect to a safe distance from where he was sending the information.
