BMW announced on Tuesday that the driver has released an even faster version of the brutally capable M5 sedan. Dubbed the M5 CS, it has 627 horsepower — 10 more than the M5 Competition — and quoted a 0-60 time of just 2.9 seconds. It is the fastest and most powerful road car BMW has ever seen by the company.
Like the hardcore M2 CS, the M5 CS has been changed to 11, separating comfort and liability for ultimate track performance. BMW says it reduced the M5’s curb weight by 230 pounds to reduce noise-deadlock and a litany of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic parts, including the roof, hood, splitter, spoiler, diffuser, and mirror cap Make. Other changes to the exterior include hood vents, red-painted calipers for standard carbon-ceramic brakes, and a bronze finish trim on the kidney grilles, badging, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
Of course, the best changes are the updates that hide below. This additional 10 horsepower comes from a new tune applied to the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 under the hood. Peak torque remains the same at 553 lb-ft, but is now more available from 1800 to 5950 rpm-90 rpm. Like the normal M5, it sends power to all four wheels through a trick AWD system with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD. The top speed is 190 mph.
That extra thrust is supported by stiffer engine mounts, 10-percent stiffer springs, stiffer toe-link ball-joint mounts, and a stiffer rear self bar. There is also a 0.2 inch drop in ride height and a more negative camel at the front. Standard adaptive dampers have been remodeled for the new suspension pieces as well as the no-cost optional Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
In addition to the usual selection of M5 colors, CS buyers will also have two specially chosen BMW individual colors to choose from: Frozen Brands Hatch Gray Metallic and Frozen Deep Green Metallic, the latter of which can be seen in the photos above is. Inside, there are bucket seats at the front and two separate seats for the rear passengers (the center seat has been removed). All four seats have a map of the Nurburgering inscribed on the headbrust.
Production of the 2022 BMW M5 CS is scheduled to begin in March 2021. The base price is $ 142,995, which includes a $ 30,000 premium over the destination, M5 competition. The company will not reveal how many units have been allocated to the US at this time, but they say they will start reaching dealers in the second half of 2021. Considering the fat price tag and niche segment, we won ‘t have many of these cars ready for graves. If you want to get one, call your dealer.
