Don’t worry you’re still going to be able to buy a 2021 Hyundai Veloster N with a stick. But now you can also specify a dual-clutch auto with “en grin shift”, which, apparently, bumps the turbo boost to increase the speed a bit. Sounds good.
The car runs with more than just an automatic transmission. Seats with illuminated logos (!), A large standard infotainment screen, and a generous suite of standard driver safety features are in the mix. Also, the “Performance Pack” tune adding 25 horsepower is now the car’s baseline.
Launching the Veloster N with a manual transmission exclusively was a bold move commercially, for sure, many American and potential customers may not drive sticks. (You’re missing out!) But I think it’s going to pay for Hyundai.
The car was universally loved by test pilots, myself included, partly because a manual transmission goes a long way to make a sport compact car fun to drive. Now Hyundai gets many great reviews including Road & Track Performance Car of the Year to woo buyers And An automatic option to sell to those who do not want to learn three-pedal footwork.
But DCT should still be good. Honda has yet to offer an automatic in either the Civic C or Type R as it understands that the experience of manual shifting is important to the personality of these cars. Okay, the CTR has enough HP which would probably still be good with a great automatic. But I don’t think Honda actually has an automatic that can be both cheap and fun to make sense in the ever popular Civic Si.
On the other hand, Hyundai probably won’t have this problem. I still remember how fun the Kia Soul’s DCT felt and this car was barely adapted for enthusiastic driving. I believe Veloster N DCT would be good, although I am forced to add that I would never imagine it while a traditional manual was on the table.
Some details about this broadcast are as follows, published by Hyundai A release today:
N Eight-speed weight dual-clutch transmission
Hyundai developed the N DCT with manual or fully automatic modes and eight speeds for better acceleration and efficiency. The N DCT is equipped with electronic actuators that operate the dual clutch providing ride comfort, fuel efficiency and driving fun. Unlike a dry dual-clutch transmission, the wet N DCT uses oil to improve lubrication and cooling performance as a requirement for high-torque applications. The new EN weight-type dual-clutch transmission uses an electric oil pump for thermal endurance to increase endurance on power thermals. The N-DCT was fully developed by N engineers, with a fun two-drive tuning focus.
N DCT Engineering
The Veloster N DCT transmission employs two clutch assemblies, one for the odd gear and the other for the reverse gear. The clutch actuator assembly uses a lightweight electric motor-driven system for greater efficiency, optimized shift response, and compact packaging. It also features an external damper for improved NVH (noise, vibration and harshness). The DCT uses an electromechanical gear actuator, which produces lightweight design, high fuel efficiency and precise shifting control through the engine’s electronic control unit. The DCT gearing assembly uses a hollow input shaft for an ultra-lightweight and extremely sensitive shifting character.
En grin shift
N DCT even comes with game-like features that increase driving fun. En Grin Shift (NGS) 260 lb.-ft. The peak torque increases by seven percent. From 278 lb.-ft. By allowing the temporary turbocharger to increase and maximize transmission response. When activated, the En Grin shift mode causes the powertrain to shift to its sportiest program for up to 20 seconds (such as for passing). In addition, transmission customization settings are now available in “custom” screen mode.
Race-like manual shift logic
This fun-to-drive tuning target is amplified through an aggressive shift that feels pronounced by “push” activation. Under braking, the driver opposes the forward G-forces, with the ergonomic forward push of the gear gear selector being the lower gear selected. Conversely, under the rearward G-forces of acceleration, the higher gear is selected through a natural, rearward pull of the lever.
N power shift and n track sense shift
N Power Shift (NPS) is attached when the car accelerates with more than 90 percent throttle demand, minimizing torque reduction by using the upshift to deliver maximum power to the wheels through each gear change. This gives the driver a responsive feel of dynamic acceleration during shifting, with a factory-estimated zero to 5.6 seconds 60 mph time. N Track Sense Shift (NTS) discharges when the road conditions are optimal for dynamic driving and activate automatically, selecting the correct gear and shift timing for optimal performance.
Wow, power shift! Smile shift !! Sense Shift Track !!! Hyundai is sure … felt compelled to name things. But if this translates to a good driving experience, then I have no objection that the car brochure is like a comic book. (Who am I kidding, there is a huge parrot painted on the hood of my car, I like this shit.)
For a more mature set, you may be interested to know if security features are ever baked into Veloster N: “Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Follow Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Note, Blind Spot Collision-Avoid Assist and Cross-Traffic Collision Warning. “
The seats of the lit-up logo, which is one thing, apparently save £ 4.4 on older people so that it is quieter.
Pricing updates are TBD but the 2021 Veloster N is believed to be the Hyundai store arriving in October. I think dropping the “standard package” would mean 250 horsepower variants.se price will be closer to $ 30,000, but we’ll see!
