FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the two people killed in a small plane crash on Friday, December 25 in the Grand Prairie.
John Robert Frazier, 65, of the Trophy Club and Larry Ronald Vierge, 71, of Grapevine died at the scene shortly before 3:00 a.m. when their plane crashed near SH 360 Service Road near Mayfield Road.
It is not clear which person was the pilot and which passenger.
Grand Prairie Fire Chief Robert Fight said the plane had flown from Grand Prairie Municipal Airport minutes before the crash.
Witnesses said the plane hit a telephone pole, then hit a truck and came to rest next to Sonic Parking where it caught fire.
Chief Fight said firefighters quickly extinguished it.
The man in the truck was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation.
Fight said the plane caught fire after resting in a grassy area near the Sonic Drive-In restaurant.
“The plane was in obvious trouble coming down,” Fite said. “We do not know whether it was an emergency landing or a catastrophic failure.”
