13 hospitalized, no new deaths in Wisconsin since yesterday in COVID-19

MADISON (WKOW) – Wisconsin reported no new deaths and 13 new hospitalizations since yesterday.

The Department of Health reported 3,818 new test results released yesterday, of which 266 – or 7 percent – came in positive, according to the new numbers released today.

The remaining tests returned negative results. However, a negative test only means that the person tested did not have the disease at that time. They can still contract COVID-19.

According to DHS, if measuring the percentage of new cases returned to the test every day increases the number of cases due to different prevalence or more testing, the difference helps.

(App users, see daily reports and charts here.)

Positive has a seven-day average of 678, up slightly from 665 a week earlier.

The DHS reported no new deaths, taking into account a total of 1,122 people killed by the disease (1.5 percent of positive cases).

The state reported 3,552 new negative test results.

Of all positive cases reported since the epidemic began, 67,234 or 89 percent are considered recovered.

The state reported 29 new hospitals. The Wisconsin Hospital is currently treating 287 patients with COVID-19. Of them, 104 are in intensive care units.

DHS has a county-level dashboard to assess COVID-19 activity levels in county and healthcare emergency readiness coalition areas that measure what the DHS calls the burden in each county. See the dashboard here.

(Our complete coronavirus coverage is available here.)

New strain of coronavirus causes COVID-19 disease. Symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath. A complete list of symptoms is available at the Centers for Disease Control website.

In severe cases, pneumonia may develop. Those at risk include the elderly, those at greater risk of infection, along with heart or lung disease.

For most, the virus is mild, similar to a cold or flu.

Anyone who thinks they may have the disease should call the hospital or clinic before going for a diagnosis. Doing so gives employees time to take proper precautions so that the virus does not spread.

People in need of emergency medical services should continue to use 911.
